Canada has not got "slow/underfunded" services for those in actual dire need.  It was slow and inadequate for all the yahoos that think they need to go to the emergency department for a sore throat.

From the date I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was staged, had all my tests done, was operated on (lumpectomy) within two weeks of being diagnosed.  I paid nothing for any of that.  Then one month later when I  was healed enough to radiation, I had one month of daily M-F radiation.. again nothing came out of my savings for it nor did we have to remortgage the home to get it done.

In some areas we could always use another hospital (like where I live) but what we have, beats what is happening to millions of people in the US regarding their personal lack of/slow/underfunded health care.  Underfunded because they can't afford the premiums, deductibles or to fight the insurance companies that deny them coverage.

EXACTLY... they don't need it, but b/c it's free, they go to it... :)

you're one of the better stories, i've heard. my friend had to come down to the US for her surgery; she was lucky in that she had the monetary funds to do it. her wait was 3 months for a some abdominal surgery... i forget what it was.. perhaps it wasn't life threatening.. (shrug) i only have that story and what my uncle always vents to me about.

It's already happening in Spain from what I've heard from my Spanish friends.

Not surprised. I saw an ad here on the BBC advocating that too. I hope people won't start turning against each other on top of everything else...

Exactly, we lost the fear of death that previous generations had.
We (gen) just needed to show up and some clever doctor wielding some fantastic treatment would save us.
We took it for granted.
We lost the respect for doctors and nurses, we became entitled.
We decided our priorities were no longer about merely surviving.
Survival was a given for most
We became more about saving money and became more concerned with materialistic stuff.
We lost touch with death and disease.
We stripped the health service down to to its bare bones and now that we are again facing death and destruction, we are now reaping what we sowed...

so... the young... who are statistically more immune to this covid-19.... will live on... while the rest of us old farts... who worry about death... will statistically more die off than the youngins?

life is fair, huh? :)

social distancing...

Well my girlfriend and I have only left my home to go to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions for her. (which are a necessity)

I put one of my N95 masks on her (that I had for polishing marble this past fall) and poly gloves that I had in stock for working on my truck.  When she came out of the pharmacy, she removed the gloves & we washed her hands with soap and water that I had brought along.

We are doing our best to social distance.

I found an old webcam and microphone I had in stock from when I was working and used "Skype" for my job.  I'm going to set it back up for her to "skype" with her sister.  There is also one of her health professionals that uses "Skype" and she'll be able to communicate with them that way, as well.

My supermarket asks that higher risk patrons get to shop for the first hour upon opening to lower their risks and asked the rest of us to give them that.

It’s good because that’s when the store is most stocked and sanitized.

That’s not too hard to live with at all.

The main worry I have with Covid 19 is its capacity to mutate.
It may go mainly for the old and infirm just now, but that is not to say it will change to target the young, the fit, the healthy.
Unpublished study from Iceland, have found 40 different variants of the virus. Iceland has tested  a large number of individuals.
Highest testing rate in the world
It only needs one variant that finds an easy target population in the young for us to have a very scary scenario on our hands.
That is why this virus is being taken so seriously I would guess.

yup. even if they find a vaccine for this covid-19... if it mutates.. it could mutate into something benign or far worse....

this is why a shutdown isn't logistically feasible long term... the numbers just don't add up.

Isn't it about time pharmacies posted out prescriptions, or used some sort of delivery service. Ill people congregating in pharmacies can't be good for them or the poor staff.
About 6 months ago I was in a pharmacy and this kid with probably the worst cold ever was in with his mother seeking some OTC treatment.. even then I distanced myself from them both.. Ugh!

No... no chit-chat with the pharmacist. She said he was quite busy and was staying behind the elevated platform. She didn't have any questions to ask about the medication as this was a refill situation.

A checkout clerk did take her money (debit card) for the prescriptions, but she kept some distance back from the register, also.

Trust me... if there was a delivery service, I would pay for it.  But alas... none exist in my area.

We are removing its target, if it find no-one to live in, it dies out.

Well, here they are considering newsstands as essentials, some people still want to buy newspapers to get their info, etc.

I'm more bothered by tobacconists being open, but I guess that's to keep people "sane". Smokers can't handle being without smoke, they're already locked down at home, so I guess that was allowed to contain people acting up.

That's the thing. It seems like everyone has found a loophole so nobody is staying home. Car dealerships? Open because they are essential to the transportation industry. Carpet installer? Open, because they are essential to the construction industry. My SO works at a manufacturer making roof vents for barns. Open! Essential to the agricultural infrastructure!

Wish I was making this up.

they drew a red line between me and the counter.. i had to reach over...Thank god my iphone was long enough to "Ding"... applepay... otherwise, i don't know HOW i would have paid...

then the next trial... i had to somehow get the prescription from the clerk... and both our arms couldn't reach... OMG>.. i almost fell over and knocked my head on the counter...

she finally said... just cross the red line and she handed me the bags...both our heads turned. hahahaha.... i wish i had vid it. we'd both be laughing... afterwards.. in our homes.. over youtube.

BUT the lock down was too late. They need to wait till the ones already with the virus show symptoms/disease, after that the lockdown will kick in and the numbers should go down if the lock down is efficient enough.

though some old farts prefer face to face.. it's usually b/c of the health insurance making all our lives difficult, that face to face is always better...

It’s going up because tests have become more available.

Also this thing can make you sick up to 14 days after exposure so it’s not really what we’re doing today as much as what we did two weeks ago or last.

and if it mutates?

does the flu die out? or remain in our bodies?

does the covid-19 die out? or does the body just become immune to it?

we may just have to re-educate the public...wash extremities before touching orifices.
