The most likely guy with virus can go out after 7 days, the less likely with virus after 14? Makes zero sense. I guess they really don't know what they're doing there.

I don't understand what you're saying here. I believe a lot of countries have the same protocol. Someone with mild symptoms isolates for 7 days in the first instance, then gets back in touch with the NHS. Families of the suspected case stay away from them for a minimum of 14 days at a minimum to protect themselves and see whether they develop the same symptoms.

The only difference here is that there is barely any testing. A form of lockdown (no restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, theatres + school closures) is starting from this evening. The past few weeks have been really stressful with Johnson's herd immunity strategy. Those of us who live in the UK already know this @justwhoiam

Reporter:   President Trump, what can you say to help alleviate the fear of the American people?  There have been 272,000 deaths worldwide.

Trump:  I'd tell them that you are a terrible reporter!

He was obviously bothered, but you didn't report his full answer, so taking things out of context is a bit tricky. He could have handled it keeping his cool more though.

Trump lacks leadership skills Period.  He would, however, make a great sheep herder.

Did it work? Well, even if she had apologized, damage would have been done 🙂

Here you can call the police (Italy).

Pretty much. She left me alone after that. I think the police here (in the US) would just have their hands full.

CNN posted a particularly egregious story about how a cashless society is best, cash money is likely contaminated, all kinds of scary language about why you have to get with the digital money program. My friend said "the cashless society" was foretold in the Bible as an ominous sign - not sure if this is correct. This news outlet has clearly identified itself as a propaganda machine pushing a particular agenda - conform, humanoids, or else!

Another article - don't remember where - said if we had an authoritarian regime like China's, we'd follow orders more easily, our indulgence in freedom is costing us. Woah! Mainstream site. I'll try to find it.

to public beaches.

He just kept telling him what a bad reporter he was and that he was sensationalizing the whole thing when all he did was ask for some words of comfort to Americans.  Trump didn't like that he actually quoted the stats and instead of just saying something calming like Pence did, he acted out.  I will see if I can find a vid of it for you.

That's not what you wrote. You wrote: "In the UK 'suspected cases' stay at home for 7 days and their families are quarantined for 14 days, preferably in separate rooms, with little contact and no going out at all." I understand "stay at home" as you can't go out. I understand "quarantined" as you isolate, possibly domestic quarantine. So the contacts of the suspected covid 19 carrier have a longer quarantine than the suspected case. Again, it makes no sense. Even a child would get it. Plus, as I said, you can be contagious for 24 days.

I don't think Johnson's herd immunity is a good idea, as I said multiple times on this thread already. But I really hope I am wrong, because we've been put through this for weeks and it's been super stressful.

“What do you say to Americans who are scared, millions who are scared right now?” Alexander asked.

“I say that you’re a terrible reporter,” Trump said. “That’s what I say. I think that’s a very nasty question.”

“You’re doing sensationalism,” Trump said.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/trump-rips-reporter-who-asked-him-to-calm-scared-americans-as-terrible/ar-BB11tcio

The reporter was not "looking for sensationalism," he was looking for words of comfort.

That’s not a link.  I really wish people would stop spreading misinformation.

If the governor can’t put an order in place then it is his fault.  It’s his state.

All this man does is play catch up.

Well I guess you misunderstood.

isolation is the same as quarantine, ie staying at home without contact or going out. One describes staying at home for those affected (isolation) and the other describes staying at home for those who are protecting themselves (quarantine). Affected people isolate (stay at home) for 7 days, families quarantine (stay at home) for 14 days. UK protocol says after 7 days, you either feel better or contact NHS.

If this makes no sense to you, maybe you can get in touch with the NHS directly, and get them to change their policy? I'm just telling you what the UK protocol is. Check it on the nhs website if you want.

I saw the other candidates, and oh boy, you don't have much choice. I guess his "tremendous" reference can get old, but he's managing things well so far. You need someone with balls.

The down side is that his choices can be a bit scary.. we're a bit concerned here in Europe about what's going on, on top of Covid 19. There have been 20,000 to 30,000 US soldiers deployed in several EU countries for the operation Defender Europe 20. Initially soldiers were sent with no protective devices for Covid 19, and we were all concerned about it... Later they decided to cut down on troops over coronavirus fears. We don't know how many got here. Maybe half the troops initially planned. It's still big numbers of people that are coming back to the US.

Plus, a task force of U.S. B-2 Spirit aka Stealth bombers got to the Azores (islands in the Atlantic, part of Portugal). Each one of those costs $2billion. And you know they are made for a blitz nuclear attack.

As all that was not enough, we're now dealing with some sort of crazy unabomber too (3 or 4 bombs sent to Rome addresses and at least one near Milan). From what I understood it's simple sand-color bags you receive in the mailbox, on a moment when many people are ordering online, to avoid getting out of home and/or avoid long lines in stores.

Look out the window today and saw a couple who were both wearing straight up gas masks walking around.

If it gets to that point, I'm going full cyberpunk.

What is "cyberpunk" ?

I haven't seen gas masks but plenty of normal masks and lots of rubber gloves.  Got an email to not touch the flagstick at the golf course.

So why do affected people are out of it after 7 days? How does that make sense? And 14 days means they're just taking time. Our first quarantine was 14 days too. But we'll see. Maybe that nonsense works.

@simplycuriousCyberpunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that features advanced science and technology in an urban, dystopian future.    Though I think I'd have to give it a twist and be cybergoth.

Seriously?? That's pure BS. They waited like a month and a half before alerting international organizations about what was going on. Do you even know that? CDC received the first alert, and not an alarming one for the seriousness of the virus, on Jan 3rd. This gives you more perspective about what's going on now. In the meantime, people were travelling, mingling, doing all sorts of things as nothing had happened.

After that first alert, which appeared like a new wave of flu that goes on every year, we started seeing videos coming from China that were alarming (end of January). International organizations asked the government to run inspections, but the Chinese government didn't allow that. Which caused more delay in response.

My country had the first recognized case mid February, and we took measures right away. Schools in my region were closed on Feb. 15.

China has serious responsability on what is going on now in 140+ countries. The countries not making the list probably don't have tests available yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have a large population of Chinese in Northern Italy. Back when the outbreak was just in China you didn't impose any travel restrictions with the exception of banning direct flights to China, so almost anyone, even from the epicenter of the outbreak, could come into Italy on a connecting flight and move around freely. As long as they passed an airport screening. No quarantine required.

Yeah, now you have travel restrictions, and I'm sorry about the horror that's occuring in Italy now, but people need to start taking responsibility for their own actions. China beat the virus in record time using the exact tactics all the "experts" in the west say don't work. And now Italy, who had a lot more warning than China did, just surpassed China's death toll. With no end in sight.
