In which case, why the hell are we still pussy footing around? Shut it all down now and get it over with and then we can get back to, what will probably be, a new normal sooner than later. Because we don't want to look weak and incompetent to our allies and enemies, not when we've been given ample warning advance of what was coming home, by Europe and China. Shutting everything off would be the best course of action, but I read around that a certain someone doesn't want to do it because he's afraid of not being re-elected. 1
Redhead14 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Maybe the virus will solve that problem for us . . .

Azincourt Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Yeah, but think about how many millions risk losing their jobs if we let the virus solve the problem for us.

Beendaredonedat Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Everyone should be self isolating so that the virus isn't spread... That is why they have closed everything down and are advising that we stay home and "social isolate."..not just those that are infected. That is misinformation. I saw a video on The View this a.m. taken in Clearwater Florida where the beach was jammed packed with turds that are being selfish by not staying home. They could potentially be causing a huge spike in Florida cases. 1

The gvt rules advised / imposed to all are confinement and social distancing. You can still go out a little for a walk or your shopping, and you need to limit contact to a strict minimum until further notice. Self isolation (7 days from 1st symptoms) / quarantine (14 days from 1st symptoms of sick person you are in close proximity to) is zero contact, zero going out until you are better / risk-free. Let's hope they haven't caught anything else. Quote The gvt rules advised / imposed to all are confinement and social distancing. In Italy you're allowed to get out of the house to walk your dog and to buy food and medical supplies, but you can't hang out at the local park or anything even if it's just you and your dog. A group of Italian mothers hanging out at the local park were sent packing home by the Italian police while they yelled'' don't you know what is going on? What are you doing! Go home!'' Affairs are dire. Edited March 17, 2020 by Azincourt 1

Locked myself real good. The only social interactions I get are the phone calls I get from my parents and sisters, and the times I play online video games and get yelled at by Italian teenagers who are bored out of their minds from being locked in their parents home all day long
Ellener Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 I don't feel like being around people anyway! Going to meet with my son and walk the dog if there aren't many people around. 1 1
Azincourt Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Be careful. Even when there are few people around, there's always risk at play. Stay safe and enjoy your night-walk with your son and dog. 1
Inflikted Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 I feel like me getting laid off for now probably won't really "hit me" until next week. Like, the next few days will probably just feel like a fun little vacation from work, and then I'll probably start feeling a bit more anxious once we're deeper into next week. And I mean, in theory, I shouldn't really be "worried", as my job is still going to be there once all this dies down, but I've really never been in the position of getting laid off or losing a job before. It feels kinda weird. I've been in the work force for nearly 12 years, and this is the first time I've ever had this happen to me. Hopefully I'll be able to collect unemployment, as the idea of zero income (even if that $1000 stimulus check comes to fruition) is a bit concerning. I mean, I have a decent amount put into a savings account, but I really don't want to have to touch that money, because that's my "saving for a place to live" money. I still wonder what shopping is going to be like, especially since we still haven't really hit the worst of this whole thing. I'm most definitely going to need to be able to get some food and supplies from time to time.

The view showed a clip of a beach in Clearwater Florida jam packed with folk out and about in a crowd no confinement whatsoever. That's selfish and stupid behaviour. Those people are completely ignoring any advice. Stay safe.

Most of Europe is in various degrees of confinement (soft version for now in the UK where I live, hardcore version in Italy, France and Spain). 1

All they talk on live TV is the corona virus and new measures the govt. is taking to keep the virus from spreading. It's like the entire world stopped and nothing but the virus happens.
Ruby Slippers Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) How's everyone doing emotionally? I'm hanging in there. I had a medical situation a few years ago where a millionaire surgeon cancelled my surgery just days before because I wasn't able to pay the huge fee in full upfront. I felt at that time I faced death and beat it, so I've lost my fear of death for the most part. Given that, in the grand scheme I have a whatever will be will be attitude. Over the past few days I was picking up a strong wave of anxious, panicked vibes from everybody freaking out. I was also feeling a little shell shocked from my breakup on Saturday. How could he be so heartless and cruel at a time like this? On the other hand, it's times like these when you find out who your real friends and enemies are, so I guess I can thank him for making himself clear. I'm pretty sure he'll try to come back around at some point. I can only imagine laughing in his face. Now that I'm taking it easy at home and coming back to my own center, these feelings are calming down. I was listening to my favorite conspiracy theorist, wondering if this all is some nefarious plan, a new normal that might get worse. It feels so Bladerunner! It's kinda hard to imagine starting my new job in a few weeks and going into this new office with a go-get-'em attitude as if everything is normal. I suppose I'll start to think of myself as some kind of humanitarian ninja, since that's what I'll have to be. This is without a doubt the strangest time in society I've ever lived through. The only thing that comes close is 9/11. Edited March 18, 2020 by Ruby Slippers 1
Gaeta Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Last night we went to get an offfice desk for my home, today after work I moved several boxes from my office to my home and tonight the IT guy made a remote connection on my home pc to connect to my office pc. I feel like a ton has been lifted off of my shoulders. I am exhausted, since last week I wake at 4 am and cannot fall asleep again. I called my parents to remind them to stay inside even if they are far away from all this. My mom assured me they don't go out....and then told me she got avocados on special at X store, then pork is at $1.99 at another store, and dad got his tires changed and got fish 2 times this week at this new fish farm...........*sigh*. They don't really get it. 1
Woggle Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) Normally my neighborhood is full of life and people and it is eerie looking out the window and seeing a ghost town. Both of us take our temperature twice a day and so far we have been okay. At this point there is nothing to do beside hunker down and hope this is over sooner than later. This reminds me of the time when Sandy wrecked our old neighborhood in Jersey but we knew that eventually we would recover from that. Who knows what the next few months will bring. amaysngrace Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I have to go into work everyday but it’s with the same group I’ve been with all along so I’m not sweating it. There’s only one new risk there, a man who got back from Punta Cana which isn’t even that much of a risk. One of the people I work with is vacationing in Morocco, but she’ll probably be quarantined at the border before entering the US if they deem that necessary. Right now I just wish people from NY and PA would stop coming down but it’s their vacation homes they’re heading to so I guess they’re allowed. I’m sure they don’t want to go out in the public, hence why they took shelter at the shore. Casinos, bars and restaurants have been closed, malls are now closed, basically everyone has their nucleus and that’s who they stay in face-to-face contact with. My daughter is the only one who could possibly pose a risk at home but she’s a nurse, she’s on top of it. She takes her temperature daily and practices good hygiene. If it gets bad at her hospital she’ll have to stay there. And by bad I mean one exposure. i spoke to my bestie who lives an hour away closer to Philly and she said there people are taking very similar precautions. i believe when you live where it’s densely populated you’re just better fit for society in general. 1 1

littleblackheart Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) I can see myself losing my mind over having to stay home without even taking a walk for another 13 days. This really seems too much. I started social distancing / washing hands / taking WHO advice straight away but absolutely did not want to bend to public panic. Now we are all stuck at home because my son is a 'suspected case', but we'll never know for sure because he won't be tested, and he's persuaded himself he has it. There are 5 confirmed cases in my area, 1 in my little town, 7 where I work. I really wish testing was more widespread, so we would actually know for a fact what we're dealing with instead of what feels like mass punishment and enormous economic fallout. I'm 100% sure it is justified, but my logical, Asperger's mind needs facts. Edited March 18, 2020 by littleblackheart 2
