I saw a big coronavirus debunking myth website.

Yes, I saw the same and felt really stupid circulating some of them, especially considering my day job.... But then I read something somewhere else that actually confirmed some of them were correct.

That's the moment I told myself I really need to stop reading so much about it...

I'm sorry, but I really believe this is getting blown WAY out of proportion.
My brother is back in Singapore, and was allowed to return earlier than expected. He took some photos to show me, and the difference between there and here is  night and day.

People are out,  business as usual,. The only sign of a pandemic is the masks many are wearing. This tiny nation where people are crowded in like sardines-a few hundred cases with no deaths Why?

By the time this is over in the USA and Canada, our economy may be decimated. There's actually people out there who think that's wonderful,. The small business owner may not be so thrilled, and the long term impact of this may be hard to swallow.

It "smells" funny to me.  It's really strange that entire governments are going so nutz over it when the stats, etc. don't really support this kind of response.  Surely, governments aren't being driven by media hype.  So what's really spooking them???

It's crazy. These people are going on and on about how great it will be to take a hit at big corporations, but they don't see the impact this will have on the mom and pop style businesses that are barley getting by.

Our own PM just enacted the old War Measures Act ( called the emergency act now). I find that really disturbing. It got nothing to do with rapid release of federal funds to people in need.

that's sad... really sad. i wonder if that boy had any pre-existing conditions...

It is very sad. I don't know about the pre-existing conditions (I read this in a CNN article, if you want to google it) so can't comment further.

I suspect it's the tip of the iceberg to be frank (only serious cases get tested), and my GP friend seems to think undiagnosed mild cases in children are much more than what we think because it seems so much like a bad bout of flu + chest infection, but if it's going to happen, it's going to happen despite all precautions.

according to the CDC and other groups in the know, this illness is usually  mild in children, unless they have a per-existing illness, are immunosupressed or take certain meds. I'm not sure if catching the disease infers immunity, but hopefully, it does.

Yeah, Trump declared a national emergency first (which is the same thing you're mentioning basically) and then other measures have followed.

i expect that will happen up here too. There's even talk ( just rumours, I hope) of forcibly detaining anyone who refuses to self quarantine. I;m very leery of that-it goes against our current interpretation of the laws as they currently read.

The stats on how quickly it can spread and how actually contagious it is is what is causing world leaders so do what they are doing.  There is no "media hype" about any of that.

I am taking it very seriously though for the sake of erring on the side of caution especially since now kids are coming up with it all of a sudden when it was the elderly originally.

Which probably why it'll likely be under diagnosed.

Still, I guess a quarantine is more to protect others so it makes sense to follow WHO and national health service advice.

I do get that but even so, it's still seems odd.  Can't put my finger on it.  Why don't any government officials come up with it or even symptoms?  Most of those people do nothing but travel and shake hands with everybody.  I did note that Trudeau's wife tested positive though.

Singapore has nearly 6 million people.

My state has nearly 40 million people.

The Country has 328 millions.

My adopted continent has 746 million people.

Hundreds of millions are elderly, tens of millions are young people with health problem. Italy is on a massive lockdown with their elderly being at tremendous risk. It's great that Singapore is doing good, but that doesn't stop the rest of the world from being scared about something that can wipe us all.

Several world-leaders are in quarentine because they are suffering from the virus.

(those govt. officials don't want to come out causing a panic by revealing their condition as a carrier for the virus).

That's my hunch.

Yeah, probably why I feel like we aren't being told everything . . .   In which case, why the hell are we still pussy footing around?  Shut it all down now and get it over with and then we can get back to, what will probably be, a new normal sooner than later.

Hmm, maybe that's why Singapore is experiencing a new wave of cases today.

People need to self-isolate and stay calm.

The economies will recover, and governments in the US and UK announced today Americans will receive pay as part of emergency measures.

There are several world leaders that have it but there isn't as many as the general public because they don't travel on public transit of any kind.  I'ts private cars, private planes,  etc.  They don't have to stand in line to get through customs either... they normally don't do their own shopping but have staff to do that for them.

You only need to self-isolate if you are infected (or show symptoms that you might be), and quarantined if you are at risk of being affected or are unknowly infected without symptoms by someone else (elderly, autoimmunodeficient,  pre-existing conditions, living with someone who has or may have it.

Self-isolation / quarantine = not leaving the house at all, for anything. 7 days for self isolation, 14 days for quarantines.

If you're not at risk or sick, you just need to follow protocole of confinement: curfew, a little fresh air, walking the dog, food shopping, medical appointments, childcare/going out to check on vulnerable family members.

But yes, 100% keep calm and don't panic buy!
