life is imperfect. Use for comparison.

Life is imperfect for most. I'd say Tom Brady,(well, except now he's going through a divorce but even still I'd trade places!) and The Saudi Arabian Princes are having a fun time of it.

That said, play it smart. Store up any food that can last a long time, get hold of medication if you suffer from underlying conditions that need long-term treatment, doesn't hurt to get medication for a toothache or a stomach flu or whatever, and buy as much soap as you can get, guys.  I'd say get a bidet but it's not  that popular in the states as it is in Europe and it's a bit late now,  but it would help with the toilet paper shortage.

Stay safe, these are some very trying days ahead, and the healthcare industry in the states is miles away from the socialist Euro Countries.

European college warned students to return from “poorly developed” U.S. during pandemic

Experts say U.S. health system ill-equipped to handle epidemic amid warnings hospitals will have to ration care

The biggest college in Norway urged students to return from countries with "poorly developed" health systems — such as the United States! — as experts warned that the American hospital system would be overwhelmed by the COVID-19  pandemic.

Norway's University of Science and Technology issued an alert to students studying abroad urging them to "return home."

This also applies for countries with poorly developed collective infrastructure, for example the USA, where it can be difficult to get transport to the airport if you don't have a car," said the alert, which appears to have been deleted but is still visible on the archived version of the page. "The same applies if you don't have health insurance."

I’m happy to report that my daughter is now in possession of an N95 face mask!

She has it stored in a biohazard bag in the trunk of her car.

So a N95 mask is good??

I took my girlfriend to the pharmacy yesterday to pick up a prescription.  I had some disposable N95 masks in stock (that I had used for polishing marble), so I put a new one on her to go into the pharmacy.  I stayed in the car.  When she came out, I had her wash her hands with soap and water that I had brought along.  She has some health issues and I'm trying to do everything possible to keep her protected.

Those are the best masks. N95 masks have filters that help protect people from the particles left in the air by the virus. Paper masks aren't ideal but they're better than nothing, and they keep you from touching your face(your mouth, eyes, and nose are entry-points for the virus to infiltrate your body).

They paper masks are cheap, a pack of 100 are about 8 dollars. The N95s masks are more expensive but so worth it. Get as many of them as possible. Also get surgery gloves to keep your hands from touching hard surfaces. Kitchen gloves aren't perfect but it's better than nothing.

Dont' forget to wash your hands for 20 seconds each session even if you are staying home all day long.

It's sort of a standard - pretty sure I have a couple boxes of 20 out in the shop from a few years back when I was doing some work that involved a little dust. In normal times they are very inexpensive and ubiquitous. I also have a full NATO surplus chemical warfare protective kit including gloves, boots, poncho, and canister type gas mask. I should wear it out today, probably the only chance I'll have to wear it in public without spending a lot of time w/ the local police.

@sothereiwas my sister was an infection control specialist during a potential ebola scare, she said the suits are a b*gger to put on, never mind try and work in them...

I finished work indefinitely today, things were drifting on so I took the decision myself. Feels so good to be home and rest/clean/play with the puppy/read etc

I'll take a day or two to rest and do some practical things then get busy with some creative stuff to figure out my next income stream and to help my nursing home music patients whilst I'm off from that work.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of a friend's daughter's death and I am writing a short hymn in her memory.

So lots of positive and thoughtful creative stuff to get on with.

Thank you!

I think it'll all be fine, tbh. My GP friend totally reassured me by saying even if he did have it, it'll most likely be mild.

The problem is that because schools are still open and you can't be sure either way about what it is, we have to follow self-isolation measures even when it might not be warranted.

Had the UK taken the same decisions as anyone else, we'd just be in confinement like everyone else, and my son wouldn't be freaking out. Instead, kids are being sent home with a sniffle, and siblings and parents are being quarantined as well. I'm lucky I'm now being made to work remotely, but some parents can't afford this.

Johnson is not handling this well at all.

I was feeling weird about shopping for clothes for my new job at such a strange time, but I have to do it. Most stores are closing, so online shopping it is.

I must say, since clothes shopping is way down the priority list for most people right now, there are some great sales! A lot of my favorite online shops are doing up to 60% off for spring clothes they just started selling.

I guess Dave Ramsey was right - a silver lining is that if you've been financially prudent and were preparing to buy a house, car, or whatever, you can get some amazing deals right now.

There's always an opportunity to make money. With the stock market sinking, the President of an European bank took the opportunity to buy 500,000 stocks for 12 cents each. His own bank's stocks 🤣, dude is gonna be making so much money after the stock market normalizes and he sells the stocks for so much more money than what they're worth now.

I hope his mistress will appreciate the gifts he's going to buy her.

If you're not doing the panic buying, you're not causing the problem, and you shouldn't feel weird at all. You're doing what people should be doing; isolation as much as practical and continuing life as usual. Setting a good example shouldn't be something to feel weird over.

Yeah, but looking out the window, apparently many people aren't doing just that because they don't want to look weird. There's a coffee shop within eye-distance from my window and there's about 15 people hanging out together, less than a meter from each other, while using their elbows to handshake instead. Seems.. productive.

And have you heard what's going on in Florida?

Thank you. I just know that this situation is causing stress and hardship for a lot of people right now. I recognize that I'm very fortunate to be in the position I am.

I was thinking about volunteering to help, but right now I can't risk getting sick and delaying my start date/pay. Hopefully once I get settled into the new position I can do more to help.

Thankfully not many old people live in FL.

I saw a big coronavirus debunking myth website.  I won't post it because I felt they didn't really know.  Anyway, it debunked things such as the 10-second test.  But then it also debunked drinking hot water because the debunker assumed that drinking hot water was for the belief that hot water would kill the virus!  I guess that's what some people think, but that's not why I drink it or why doctors tell you to drink it.

I have chronic bronchitis for years now and struggle not to have a dry cough always, so I take all this stuff, including guaifenisen, steriod inhalers, nose spray, allergy pills.  Anyway, just this past week, my mucus got too thick to cough it up -- and that's what this virus will do.  But this happens to me often enough.  And warm water is the same as drinking the always recommended warm tea with honey for a cold.  Except better because caffeine will dry you out more as will artificial sweeteners.

The purpose of drinking hot water is to steam some of that mucus and thin it out so you can cough it up without hacking.  Not to kill the virus.  It's to keep the microscopic cilia in your bronchia moving and working to push the mucus where it's supposed to go.  If you are gunked up, those aren't working.  So I was already on so many pills for different things that I have to drink a lot of water, but now I'm drinking even more and usually hot or warm water to keep it loose.  And drinking water is about the only thing you can do for this virus on your own.  Warm or hot water just does it faster.

it's funny... when i used to have time, i never made time for the gym... but when my schedule is tight... i made it a priority and made it my daily routine.

someone once told me you had to sacrifice something to gain something... guess it's true. :)

good luck on the gym.... now that they're all being closed. hehe.

guess i'll have to re-assemble my elliptical i brought with me from Cali. and take actual walks, instead of treads...

anyone know if sex is a good cardio in lieu of a treadmill? "hi, i'm a random stranger, but if you're in for a good cardio... wanna hook up?"... hmm..sounds like something a rapist would say...

OK, whew - I read that headline wrong, and thought it was saying the first death of a child due to coronavirus, which would be the first in the world I think.

A 14 yo boy died from coronavirus in China but other than that, serious cases (or mild cases, even) are really very rare even in the most affected countries.

I'm sure all the precautions we have to take are necessary because we know so little still, but it sometimes does feel a little too much.
