Of course numbers are going to be low if there aren’t enough tests to confirm. That’s basic math. LOL - that is wholly irrelevant to the death count... but nice try.

Incomplete random testing will inflate the fatality rate though. No one misses a fatality, but a lot of minor cases of the sniffles will go under the radar. 1 1

RecentChange Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 6 bay area counties are getting shelter in place orders today. To quote LA times "only police and fire, hospitals, grocery stores and pharmacies and a few other business will be allowed to remain open" The bay area has a population of nearly 8 million - on shut down. My husband has already talked to a number of people who have been laid off this morning. So glad I got some grocery shopping done yesterday

All non-essential businesses in PA were ordered to close about an hour ago, but I believe that, so far, restaurants are still allowed to offer takeout.

BC1980 Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 We ran out of airborne isolation at the hospital yesterday. That's gonna be a real problem going forward. I work in cardiology, and the physicians are worried about where the cardiac patients will go if we don't have enough beds. A regular flu season is hard enough to navigate. 1 1

Yes, you can turn up at an emergency room and say you are bleeding profusely, the emergency care will be provided to stop the bleeding, stabilise you and probably as part of that run tests to see what caused it. Say it's caused by cancer, you will be told the information and recommended or referred on to go get treatment. It's then on you the patient to fund that treatment. It's become a myth you can show up at any ER and be cured. ERs provide emergency care yes, and if you don't pay the bill you can still go there your next medical emergency, but they do not provide any necessary ongoing care or treatment, and most other hospitals and doctors will want proof of insurance or payment first. 3

Not that it needs any helping hand for that to happen. This happened because some dude decided it would be cool to eat a wild animal. I actually told my father some guy must have gone to a street market, bought a wild animal, ate it and then spread it. Wouldn't you know... a couple of weeks after the specialists are saying this is what happened 3
Ellener Posted March 16, 2020 Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) I said earlier I think conspiracy theories should be a private vice No one needs to hear about what we rant in private! All calm here, people resignedly preparing as we do regularly for the storms and floods, and I'm sure if there's a need people will be sharing and dropping things off. After Harvey a huge number of the flood rescues were by private citizens. The authorities will make announcements for what's needed in a similar way I think. We have had curfews before, nothing on this scale, but people will do their best. Edited March 16, 2020 by Ellener 3

elaine567 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 Experts today said vaccine will be available in approx 18 months if all goes well, but further time will be needed to roll it all out globally. Data modellers from London who advise the UK Govt. have said tonight that the movement restrictions outlined today by the UK Govt will need to be in place until the vaccine is deployed. There has been a change of the UK plan, they are no longer attempting to flatten the curve but the new attempt is to suppress and halt the virus. Previous UK plan to flatten the curve and to hope to develop herd immunity they found would have cost 260 000 UK lives... I think just about everyone knew that last plan was nonsense and an accident waiting to happen... Letting a potentially dangerous virus rip through a population unhindered and untested was IMO criminal... I feel they still need to go much further but are frightened to do so, in case they meet hostility, but today's plans need tightening and extending and probably enforced to actually have any chance of quelling the virus. Macron has the right idea, but essentially far too late.

And could end up homeless. If they don't pay they can come under a court ordered judgment and have their assets seized or income garnished. There is a reason why medical bills are the most common reason for bankruptcy in this country. Sure they can get treatment - but it might completely ruin them financially for many years, cause homelessness etc. Make a 5 dollar payment a month and they can do nothing to you...And many unpaid medical bills DO NOT go on a credit report......even if it did,. you are talking about many people that already have shytty credit scores...If they are already at the bottom, then they aren't going to lose anything.. Bankruptcy is BS anyway....Every dope on the street claims bankruptcy....Especially after the last financial crisis...Its lost its stigma for the most part, so there are a million ways to get around a bankruptcy...Sure, it would make it tough to buy property or get other forms of credit, but like I said, these folks have gotten used to the workarounds... I wont go into a lot more detail, but as a landlord, you aren't really correct in what you are stating.... TFY
