My friend Olivia is going to a new year's eve party organized by her friend Kate.She’s throwing a party at her house.This year none of my friends are organizing the new years eve.I really don't want to spend it with my family  . Will it be okay if I ask her to ask Kate if I could join the party? 

 I'm afraid if I ask Olivia she will think I'm strange or something

yes that is ok.  but if you get to go don't go empty handed.  take a bottle of champagne or some flower
