Like most folks, I use my cell phone for the time. I still have a sharp looking watch that I used to wear when dressing up. Now, in my 50's, I'm concerned that I'll look like a relic if I wear it.

Many women have an appreciation for what a man wears. So I ask you....what do you think of a watch wearing male? If I ever wear it again, I think I'll be sure to have my cell quite visible so I don't appear behind ball in tech.

Thank You

Just be you. that's what I do. were too old to care what others think these days. I even had some family laughing at me on turkey day. really. I don't care. I personally like wearing those old watches not to mention they are actually worth something. some I have are worth way more than the phone. lol and to replace them with a new one of the same quality like a self winding watch costs thousands today. After all what does a woman really love? our personality

Watches are in style, especially ones with large faces. Either way, own your 50s. There's nothing wrong with being middle-aged. I don't think a watch is a sign that you're old or don't know how to use a phone.

Since the wrist watch industry is still thriving so I would think that many people still buy them and wear them. I personally love nice classy watches much more than any apple watch... so ugly LOL

So wear them and be yourself!

A watch to a man , is jewellery to women.

But fashion changes. So a “sharp” looking watch to you , may seem old fashioned to some or cool to others. If it’s a classic , fine.

If it’s a cheap watch from the 90’s, probably not fine lol

What’s the make and model of the watch so I can google it to give you an actual honest opinion!?

It’s not an antique pocket watch on a chain, is it :) ?

I’ve noticed my oldest son (in his 30’s) and his friends are way into watches, some of them quite expensive.

What’s worrisome is the gist of your question suggests you think you should be something other than yourself to find a partner...

Why would you want to date somebody who doesn't appreciate a watch you love, that is part of who you are / how you dress?

How young are the ladies you hope to date/impress?

I've always found a nice watch on a man to look appealing, especially with a metal band. I don't think it ages a person.

I'm a watch kind of guy. I feel naked without one on. (going back to when I was a kid) For years... I would wear a Velcro band G-shock Timex when around the house. It was cheap, waterproof, and could be beat around. Also, when I was a chemist... I needed to wash multiple times a day, and I needed to not worried about my watch.

In my "Professional" life... I started to wear Movado, and Citizen eco drives. They were classy, and went well with a suit. The reason I chose those watches is I saw Rolex as an "Old Man" watch.

With that said... the trend now is smart watches. So guys I knew that would wear a $10K watch, now has a $400 smart watch. I few years back... I had one that I only used when I traveled, because it was nice to get updates, and gate changes pop up on my watch. I now have a basic Samsung sport that I have a rubberized band on it when I'm home, (and a digital face) and a nice brown leather band (with a classic face) on it when I'm dressed/working. It's waterproof, has my data I need... and I even have a few of my credit cards in it... and so I don't even have to pull out my wallet most of the time. (NFC payments) Funny thing on that... I can hit a small kiosk with a hand held credit card terminal and the NFC works... but places like Walmart still have old, non-NFC terminals. (and Wendy's too)

OK... my brother is 3 years older than me, and he has never warn a watch. I've bought him a few over the years (including an apple watch) but he never wears them. So, it has nothing to do with age... just the person. My ex never would never wear one either... but she started to wear a smart watch when she got her second (secret) phone.

Anyway... as Mr Lucky said... why worry about someone not liking you because you have a watch?

If you like a watch... wear it. But make sure it fits what you are doing. (No gold Rolex while grocery shopping)

I doubt I would even notice a watch on a man. Unless you are always staring at it wear that watch!

My situation is similar to this reply and I too feel “naked” without a watch. I’m fast approaching 50 and have several high end pieces that I wear and am complimented on by women regularly.

I’m not into the smart watch trend and not a fan of Rolex at all (but my other watches are quite expensive), but to each his or her own.

l find them very comfortable to wear, l like the feel of a good watch.

l also find them a far more convenient way of just checking the time to than phones anyway.

I find watches on men appealing, but I'm 47, so....

We don't know what age group you're targeting...

I think you buy the Apple Watch and put a background image of a photo your old watch on it :)

Win Win....

I have literally not once ever given that much thought to a man's timepiece.

To me, it is a matter of preference and style, and unrelated to age. I am 38-year-old woman who's worn watches as long as I can remember. And I mean real and simple watches, that only tell time - not the type of watch that notifies me of an incoming message, vibrates when my stocks are doing well or alerts me of the local time and UV index in Nairobi.

You're overthinking the importance of this one, OP.

Exactly what is the age range you're aiming at? 19yr olds?

H is just over half your age and wears a watch almost every time he goes out. Personally, I think it's hot!!

Classy with a capital L... that's what I'd think... and I'm still a good few years away from 50!

Then again, I'm a huge admirer of how accessories define a man. As it is, men only have a few go-to apparel accessories. It's a shame the classiest one of them is being threatened by the advent of the smartphone.

PS: Sparked by curiosity, I looked up the TV program I was watching to observe the panellists sitting in the talk show. All 4 of them were wearing watches.

I can't remember where I recently was, but this whole group of men and women all had on the ugliest nearly identical dark face watches, I guess the Apple type or something similar. To me, that looks stupid. Just a blank dark screen on your arm. I wouldn't sweat this type thing. You're not going to fool anyone into thinking you're younger by wearing the ugly digital ones instead.

I'm 54 and have always worn a watch. I do try to date around my age (+/- 10 years). I've never been rejected because I was wearing a watch (that I know of) or even asked about it.

One a side note, about 12-13 years ago I was dating a woman. She owned her own business. She was about 5-6 years younger than me. One day she surprised me with a rather expensive beautiful watch (as a gift). Although things didn't work out for us; I will always remember her and the wonderful gift I received.

I still wear that watch every time I leave the house, it is one of my most prized possessions. I enjoy it.

Doesn't matter what your age is or is not (I am 44 before the use of cell phones as time pieces), if I don't have a wat h on I feel like I'm naked. Now we have Fitbits (with and without big faces) and Apple Watches. I think the need for security is also there for people so I would find a man who wears a watch appealing.

Watches are back in style. They're kinda huge nowadays - speaking of the style. But ya, as long as you have a fashionable one go for it. I wear a Samsung Galaxy Watch most days but switch to a vintage Rolex Datejust from time to time. <-- my father's.

If you send me pics (one w/out a watch, and one naked) I'll tell you if you look naked without a watch.
