About 25% of the time my dating relationships end when I don't bother to continue to ask the woman out and she doesn't bother to contact me either. I'm thinking two things that could be happening at her end:

- She's relieved. She really didn't want to keep seeing me and she's happy that the dating has just 'quietly' died.

- She's disappointed. She wanted to keep dating but 'takes the hint' when I stop contacting her and accepts that if I'm not interested it's not worth her effort to chase.

I assume there's no way to know for sure. But I'm posting to curiously ask what people's experience has been or what they think the breakdown is. Ladies can share their own reactions. Both genders can share their opinions about how women react.

Of course the flip side of the question is why has the dude stopped asking. I think that one has been beaten nearly to death in other threads.

I think you are spot on. It's the two reasons you mentioned and also very often the other one:

*that the girl expects you to pursue and if left baffled and confused as to why YOU are fading out on her, yet doesn't want to be the one chasing you. Effectively, somewhat of a misunderstanding due to poor communication or a lapse in that. Also as you say this happens with the 25% you don't really care to keep dating and they may feel that from you and prefer to spend their time on guys who are totally into them.

I'm pretty sure with the other two reasons you've mentioned that those are the 3 ways it goes. Little variation but those are the 3 main ones, i.e. should could be relieved or lets it go because she is more interested in another guy or another guy is pursuing her harder. But yeah, think you nailed it.

what happens the other 75% of the time?

I think you're right. However, most women I know, if they knew the guy any length of time, would probably find a way (maybe just social media though) to be sure he's okay and didn't have a wreck and end up in the hospital. Either way, they're not overly into you or they would probably contact or ask what's up.

I think any mature woman used to "interested" male attention is going to shut down pretty quick if that male interest fades or even if it starts off pretty lack lustre.

If you are not bothering to ask her out in the hope she will ask you out or by withdrawing You will somehow stimulate more interest in her, then I guess as you have found it will not work.

If one guy is not coming up with the goods, the next one will...
