Perhaps he simply likes an 'indie' look. Or someone who's facial features are a little unusual? And a conventionally attractive woman can still be a toad on the inside. But I do worry that he's ruling out too many girls on looks alone and leaving himself with few options.

But many men, myself included, make a transition at some point from "kooky, fun, life-of-the-party" to thinking a little normal might not be such a bad thing.
