Free dating site scam!

So, I deactivated a free dating profile months ago when I met someone. We broke up a month ago, but I wasn't planning to go back to the site.

But I kept getting tons of emails that people were sending me messages, so I just logged in to see what was going on.

Well, the site kept all my original, unique profile content and replaced my photos with some fake model-esque photos. WOW! Total scam!

So this dating site is using my original ideas and some fake photos to lure in all these men, giving the impression there's this super hot babe on there, obviously trying to separate more men from their money. Unbelievable!

I'm tempted to sue their asses, but since it's a free site I never paid anything for, I don't imagine I'd get very far.

I just wanted to post this as a warning - women, your creative content may be stolen, and men, all those hot babes are probably paid models who you'll never have a chance of meeting :mad::mad:

You could at least specify the site so we know which one to avoid.

Oh yeah and they'll use your photos too. Somewhere in the fine print when you signed up, you probably gave them permission. Any of the photos you upload can be used by the site for advertising even after you've cancelled your account.

How do you know it was the site doing this and not an individual who had gained access to your account? If the site wanted to do this, they could easily just make profiles of their own in bulk, which would be a lot simpler than hijacking yours.

Shortly after I deactivated my profile from a free site, I began getting a lot of scam emails, claiming they had my password and had been spying on me through my webcam and such rubbish, asking for bitcoins for their silence. Some of them even quoted the password as "proof" that they had it, and it was the one I used for the free dating site, which I hadn't used for anything else.

Since I hadn't told the password to anyone and hadn't used it anywhere else, and it's not an easy to guess or crack (in fact it's a string of random letters and numbers), I'm pretty sure the site must've either had a data breach, or deliberately given or sold my password to the scammers.

Before deactivating a profile I would always blank the info boxes, or set them to gibberish, or some text making it clear that it is no longer an active profile, set all the selectors such as age and occupation to crazy values, and delete the pics. Set the password to some random value, and then deactivate.

Ugh, soooo slimy! I removed all the unique content and deleted the profile. Hopefully that does it.

Before doing that, I emailed the first page of guys to let them know it was a scam. One of them pointed out that this "army babe" was wearing a Marines uniform haha

Report them to whatever agency does oversight where you live. Right now they're doing hearings in the US with all the big internet monsters. So it might even be a good time to call your consumer reporter and get it on the news.

Wow, thanks for the info RubySlippers. Ugh. That is disheartening. Slimy for sure.

Good to know.

If you wanted to get back at the site, you could have contacted any guy who messaged you and revealed the truth.
