Is it hopeless?

No matter how long I wait and try to help my boyfriend can barely keep his head above water to pay his bills. Although he assures me he is in good shape financially I don’t think we will ever together unless I’m willing to pick up the slack. Then I’m not even sure a legal agreement can address me kicking him out.

 

He’s great otherwise. Very loving and all the rest.

 

Does anyone have experience with this?

Oh, sure. I think we've all fallen for people who you simply wouldn't ever want to live with or make a life with because of their messy lives or habits. You get to choose who to take into your life. Choose someone who can at least stand on his own two feet. Maybe he can't now but it's not a chronic problem -- but it could be chronic. Depends how old he is. If he's over 30 and he can't seem to get a good foothold, it's him.

 

Don't feel bad about it. You'd only be enabling him if you kept him from the inevitable. You know, I have two jobs and I'm 66. Maybe he needs two jobs instead of one.
