Just reading through some of this...

I punched a wall in high school and broke a finger. It actually doesn't take a lot of force to do this if you hit it just so.

I have never been physically abusive to another person.

What's the difference between a guy punching a wall and a woman hitting her pillow to let off some steam?

She says he's been sweet otherwise. Just keep an eye on it.

All of that is temper that needs to be controlled. I don't know any women who hit their pillow either. That sounds like a childish tantrum, a little different than breaking your hand on a wall. It's not normal and it's not good.

I wouldn't recommend hitting walls as therapy, of course.

Just did a little internet search. Many psychologists used to recommend getting extreme anger out by hitting pillows as a form of catharsis (started with Freud). Looks like many don't think so any more, though I did find one article from 2018 in Psychology Today that still recommended it (7 Creative Ways to Express Hot Anger).

So if the pros don't think hitting pillows is a good idea anymore, I will defer to them...
