max3732 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 There was an article in the WSJ about how some people are using matchmaking services. I checked and these services cost thousands. Obviously this is a lot more than the OLD sites. Has anyone ever tried these? Do you think they're worth the extra money? There is one near me that cost $3,000 that looks like it's just one guy. I'm afraid of giving anywhere near that much money to someone. There doesn't seem to be any kind of guarantee with any of these services.
fieldoflavender Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Yeah I would be curious too. I've looked up "elite" services etc. for people of a certain caliber who don't exactly go on tinder or something. But the problem is there's so many scams and being duped. I don't mind paying that amount if the quality of people are actually good - but not if it's just a scam. But no idea how you find out. I also read this article how this lady who was a retired executive spent like 10k or something ridiculous on the service and got some dude who was a felon.
chillii Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 l've got a very wealthy mate that has no problem whatsoever chatting up girls anywhere anytime and nope it's nothing to do with his wealth he actually hides that and just looks like an average guy on the street. He was always worried about being used for his money so he'd literally dress and drive down , get to know a girl for a month or two before he even let on. lf it was going nowhere he'd never let on. Buttt, he just couldn't meet anyone he felt for so he payed 7k to one of those places and on this he was just himself but he also asked for wealthy women too. He was with them 6mths or so , they intro'd him to a few women but he actually did better before than with them so he dumped it. Last l heard he was engaged to someone he chatted up in the mall.
Gretchen12 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I'd play matchmaker for free. It's great when it works out. I prefer to match up people in their late 20's to early 40's. They tend to be ready for something serious. Would I use a paid service myself? probably not. I don't want to pay and I already meet people at events, through acquaintences etc.
fieldoflavender Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Yeah but that's the whole point of finding someone who has a similar financial status as you - less chance of being used for wealth. I think it's deceptive to pretend you have no money. And doesn't matter - once they find out you have money, they can still use you and alimony law still exist. I read a bunch of bad reviews from those elite websites so I think maybe I will pass for now. MEH. I think in life stuff works well if you're super popular and have a wide social circle. Now that I'm no longer in school, it's harder.
ZA Dater Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I feel the same way about these as I do about dating coaches, both pander to a need which should not exist if we all took a step back and questioned why we are being dictated to by society. Pay the money and with no guarantee. I looked at one of these a few years ago and when I requested to see their portfolio of matches, I was shown the ones they thought would suit me best, none suited me at all.
Author max3732 Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 I'd play matchmaker for free. It's great when it works out. I prefer to match up people in their late 20's to early 40's. They tend to be ready for something serious. Would I use a paid service myself? probably not. I don't want to pay and I already meet people at events, through acquaintences etc. Well I'm not meeting people through events, acquaintances, etc and am getting tired of swiping or writing messages that get ignored with OLD. If I were able to talk to someone who could actually line up a date a month with the kind of woman I'm trying to find it would be worth paying for, but it just seems like this kind of thing is ripe for a scam. I mean, if I pay some guy with a website 3,000 he could fix me up with some random people he knows that are nothing like my criteria or just take the money and run. Some of the reviews I've seen people say they told the matchmaker they want to find someone who wants kids and they were matched with someone who doesn't want them. So I'm debating signing up again for eharmony and/or match, or maybe trying something new. I just know I'm getting older and having more and more problems meeting someone single.
Wallysbears Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 There are some very reputable matchmakers. But they are very specific whom they will take on as clients and they are not cheap.

I did this about 25 years ago and it was a colossal waste of time and money. The agency really didn't have any matches--they went out in the evenings to bars and whatnot to find guys to match up with the paying women (that's where they get their money)-the men weren't coming in and signing up and paying.
fieldoflavender Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Actually there was an article about this CEO who got matched with some dude with felony charges and he harassed her and her family and she needed a restraining order. Then another dude who fainted and was waiting for his terminally ill wife to pass away - nothing she said she wanted. And she paid 150k for this "CEO service". I was considering it (certainly not paying 150k lmao but even a few hundred to over 1k is a lot) because at least it does select out financially, but I think the chance of being scammed is too high. I mean of course one wouldn't pay expecting to find a spouse but like if you get people who will stalk you or hurt you, yeah no thanks. I'm pretty good at screening for duds myself.
