I was just going through guys' profile photos on a few dating websites and the app ones (ex. Tinder). There is a large amount of guys who post photos of themselves with their dogs in the picture - and one or two with cats. Look through some of the teen idol mags and you will also see the pinups holding dogs in them. I think this is the same thing - associate the "cuteness" of the dog / puppy with the man holding it. I have also seen some with a small collection of photos and it includes a solo of the dog.

Am I wrong? Now I am an animal lover, don't get me wrong, but I also have allergies and can't have pets other than birds and fish.

Not exactly what you are trying to ask, but as a guy, yes I do believe that animals or even babies in a picture with a guy can help his chances. Even though I don't have a dog anymore, I do have a pic with a friends dog, and that seemed to catch the eye of the girl I am currently talking to. So yes, men will use things that women think are cute as a way to enhance their interest in them

No you are not wrong.

Great, you can avoid the ones who have cats and dogs very easily, then.

l saw plenty with 1 or 2 selfies and 4 or 5 of their pet.

Ok lady so you got a dog , wth do you look like please.

Drinks in hand was another common one , all the very things l've heard women complain about.

Weird effg world out there.

As single people age they often get a pet. That pet is important to them, so anyone they want to attract needs to like that pet too.

A pic with a pet will filter out a lot of people without having to go through the hassle of long chats, a meet up, dinner etc., to find the pet is a dealbreaker...

Agreed. When I was on OLD I had one pic with my dog. We are a package deal.

I didn’t use it so much for the cute factor though it did pull in a few pet lovers.

I don't think that most people selecting profile pics think about the psychology behind them. I think it's more of a love me, love my pet thing. Since you are allegoric, you know not to select these guys because you won't be able to tolerate the animal so be thankful for the heads up so you don't waste anybody's time.

I have a dog that I love to death, but never really thought my pic with him would increase my chances like some kind of psychological hack. I give women more credit than that :lmao:

I have a picture with him more so along the lines of giving a girl an idea of some of my interests and for basic compatibility. Having a dog or pet is kind of like a hobby. If a woman also has a pet, it is something both have in common. I also have a picture with me playing my guitar, lifting weights, and places I like to travel. To me, they just show the important things in my life.

TBH, most men don't put that much effort into their dating profiles. You're way over-analyzing IMHO. If you're on Match, I think they even offer a service to design and write your profile for you. I'd love to see how many men use that service. I did spend a lot of time writing my summary statement so that I don't get women messaging me that I would have no interest in (they still do anyway lol).

Funny you mention that, because I did actually match with a woman that was petting a tiger. It was her main picture. But it was a some sort of petting zoo she visited on vacation. Would still freak me out. Still, it stuck with me and I still remember her profile so I guess it worked. She was really interesting though. Working on her PhD at age 23! So maybe there was some psychology behind her selection of that pic

Lol what does this have to do with aging :D? Some of us has always had pets, I don't remember staying without a dog and / or a cat ever since childhood, and yup, all my boyfriends had to take us as a package... Even the ones that were 'allergic' or said so (since I lived with one of them and his 'allergy' to my cat magically disappeared... Yet he still wanted to lock the cat in different bedroom overnight, I still feel guilty to my cat for that, and this bf is long gone for good :))

I think it is no different then putting a picture where you are with friends or something alike. Having a pet is a big part of people's lives, they are like family members. Cute factor is there of course and some people abuse it... For me there is a factor of relief when I see a person is having a pet - somehow makes me think he's more mentally stable, subconscious bias maybe.,

BF and I totally bonded over our pets. If we move in, we'll have so many together that we need a bigger home

I love women who love dogs, so a pic of a woman with a dog gets major bonus points from me.

the men have no friends so the next best thing is putting their pets in the photos

There was a study conducted by OkCupid a while ago that mentioned guys with dogs/pets in their photos do better on average than the rest of the male population on that app.

I think a lot of guys took that advice, which is why you see it so prevalently on dating apps/sites.
