I just want to know what it was like if you don't mind me asking.

From the age of 17 through to 21, I was in a sexual relationship with a woman (16-20 at the time) who has a mental illness. It runs in her family and became discernible as she got older.

It was a truely awful experience, which has told me to avoid having any ongoing long term sexual relationship with anyone so afflicted.

As to handling it, fortunately I ended our marital relationship. To this day at 47, I do not regret divorcing her at all.

In addition to the above, I have a teenage daughter, who has in recent months, developed a mental illness.

Again given the horror of the above mentioned, now ongoing experience. It reaffirms my feelings. That I will never knowingly, carry on a long term sexual relationship with anyone who has a mental illness.

Thanks alphamale.

Anyway to add further, some people can manage it better, and combined with good management good relationships can be maintained by some. So it can work for some people.

My first round with my ex-wife was just too deep in terms of the pain, so the best thing I could do for my own health was to let her go.

On the other hand with my daughter from my current marriage. We don't give up, yet that doesn't mean that even with the best of help, we can save her or that she will survive.
