OK Guys... Unless you want to be in the dog house for Valentines Day, now is the time to start planning and shopping.

I'm on an on-line auction site, right now looking at items to bid on.

If you have no idea what to get her, look for something that contains her birthstone.

Best of luck to my fellow Loveshack posters that want to make Valentines Day special for their girlfriends or wives.

Look at you...and here I thought you weren’t a romantic type LOL

Knowing your spouse and their love language is important as well.

I am not big on gifts, especially jewelry, please do not buy anything with my birthstone - I am not a fan!

My very favorite Valentine’s Day has been coming home to a clean house, sushi ordered from my favorite place (its too busy to go out on V day), a cozy fire, tasty drinks and a night of passion spent with my man.

I still remember the year when he bought some pretty lingerie and a wonderful silky short robe (still my favorite).

You know what is great about ordering in? You can eat in your PJs, or in the case of that evening, lingerie

Oh... I like to acknowledge Valentines Day for my girlfriend. Its important to her, so I try. We've been together 7 years. She likes anything with her birthstone in it. (Opal or Red Tourmaline).

Last year, I found an opal ring & cooked a lobster dinner for her. This year I'm bidding on a red tourmaline necklace. Cross your fingers (I win the on-line auction).

See, you just earned brownie point HL!

Good job

Get me a Kinder Surprise for Valentine's Day, and I'll be a happy girl (yes I'm a kid at heart)!

One can never go wrong with flowers and candy. It's a good, all purpose gift not just for Valentine's Day. I get flowers and candy for my Mom for her birthday as well as Mother's Day, she has so much stuff it's ridiculous.

I also didn't think you were the romantic type  Very nice!

I'm also not into jewelry but thanks for making me find out what my birthstone is - no wonder I've always liked sapphire.

I'd dump any guy who wasn't planning my perfect Valentine's gift at least a month in advance! No excuse.

JK....doesn't matter to me at all. A heartfelt note on scrap paper will do, thanks ;). Not every woman is obsessed with material things like the original post seems to imply.

Yes... Sapphires are really pretty and reasonable.

Many years ago, I was dating this pretty red head when the movie "Titanic" came out. After the movie she went on and on about sapphires. So, I stopped by this little "Mom & Pop" jewelry store that re-sold estate jewelry and they had just got in some Diamond and Sapphire earrings. They weren't top quality, but they were pretty, so I purchased them for her (a little "just because" gift). You would have thought I had given her a million bucks, her eyes lit up and they really made her smile.

Oh... she isn't obsessed with material items, but I do want to acknowledge Valentines Day. Sorry if my post implied that.

My girlfriend had a tough year in 2018. She went through a couple of surgeries, one of which forced her to have to recuperate at my house for 6 weeks. She earned whatever I find on-line (auction) this year.

Awwwwww! That is VERY sweet. I would love that, even if it was from a little machine at the grocery store. So cute.

Just curious, do you guys all celebrate V day AND anniversaries, or do you pick one? We usually do V day, but might decide to switch to anniversary this year.

Hmm, must remember not to clean the house for the other 364 days then :D

To Elswyth...

I don't know if this counts, but "no" we don't celebrate our dating anniversary. I think its in late January. After celebrating Christmas, it would be a bit much to celebrate that anniversary and Valentines Day, so I do something nice for Valentines Day.

Oh... we also celebrate "March 14" which is "Steak and B* Day".

For the record, I won the auction I was bidding on. I got her a very nice Red Tourmaline & white topaz necklace. I spent a little bit more than I wanted to, but it is a very nice necklace and worth going over budget, slightly. I know she will love it.

I still have to plan dinner, but I've got time to gather up what I need to cook a nice meal. I might go with lamb this year.

excellent choice if you can get some good quality lamb. chops or ground is the way to go. maybe some nice mid-eastern kebabs with hummous and pitas

HA! Now, I don't know if I would go as far to say that I am OCD, but I have a really hard time relaxing if the house needs pick up. My usual routine is to come home from work and immediately spend about 30 mins tidying up. Its really nice when I get home and do not feel that compulsion!

That said - I think there is a lot to be said with taking a few tasks off your lady's plate as far as brownie points go.

Here are my rules for Valentines day meals - is it conductive to hours of sex after? :lmao:

Nothing too heavy, I avoid lots of garlic or onions, or sausage or other meats that tend to cause lingering burps  No asparagus or things known to cause gas (beans, cabbage).

For instance I love a good fresh made hummus, but I don't want to be smoochin' after all of that raw garlic!

Ha I have nothing against eating in in general (I'm the opposite of foodie- I am content eating anything).

But for V Day eating out is great opportunity to take out my killer heels, and nice cocktail dress that would otherwise stay forgotten in the closet...

Huh? I thought YOU should be the one to earn a special gift from her, no?

I hear ya.... but Valentines is also the second busiest restaurant day of the year (first being mother's day). Service and quality usually suffers, and for decent places (at least in my area) you have to get reservations well in advance.

I just prefer to avoid the chaos of the V day restaurant crush.

We go out for anniversaries - or just a good ol' date night.

I'm not the easiest person to live with, six weeks probably felt a lot longer to her.

Some days she was in a fair amount of pain, others not as much. She was also getting bored, as she was pretty much stuck on the couch. There is only so much HULU you can watch. The whole thing was pretty rough on her.

As for gifts, I'll get my "special" gift after dinner!!

True... Excessive crowds are not fun.

Actually dressing up at home is fun too :) Or the dinner out can be in 13th or 15th instead...
