henry12345 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I helped my 85 year old father in law move into a condo. paid for a moving truck and at the end of the day he accused me of stealing some of his stuff. I give up on him!!!!!!!
healing light Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Is he always like this? Or is he starting to show some signs of irritability or forgetfulness that he didn't before?
Happy Lemming Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Yes... I feel your pain. Last year, my father insisted that the Social Security people cheated him out of one of his payments. I did a spreadsheet and showed him he received 12 payments, one per month, but he still insisted he's been cheated. He is 88 and is starting to have problems taking care of his finances. At some point, we'll have to have the "Power of Attorney" speech. Henry12345, its not you, don't take it personally. It is just part of getting older. You did a good thing, helping move him, don't let his confusion spoil the good deed that you did.
Wallysbears Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 This happens as people age. Try not to take it personally.
d0nnivain Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Know that you are a good person & try to let his tirades roll off your back.
basil67 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Ah, yes, I remember my grandmother accusing my father of stealing her stuff. She had Alzheimers. How is your FIL's state of mind?
Miss Clavel Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 at thanksgiving this year my daughters father was accused by his mother of stealing her purse. when my ex explained to his mom that she didn't bring her purse to dinner she became irate. she didn't have her purse because she can't keep track of it anymore. the funny thing was she looked to her other son, the ne've-do-well one, to back her up about her oldest being a purse snatcher. since you can't prove a negative, try distraction.
