Hello forum!

Hoping for some help from the wise!

Ex and I have been broken up for quite some time. We do see each other every once in a while as we both belong to the same organization. Our interactions are always pleasant and friendly.

He texted me out of the blue a few days ago. Wanted to let me know that a family member of his was not doing well. And will most likely be passing on soon. I texted back my heartfelt sympathies.

I’ve been wondering if I should text him again and ask how the family member is doing? I’ve been hesitant to do so, only because I don’t want him to think anything of it.

Should I text and ask or just let it go? If, so, how should I word the text so that he doesn’t read too much into it? I know this may sound silly to some of you, I just want to be careful.

Thank you in advance!

If the family member's passing isn't imminent, how about a "Get Well" card??

I imagine you could mail it to him, to give to the family member. It shows you care about the "family member", but doesn't send the wrong signal about getting back together.

Happy Lemming, thank you for the suggestion. The passing of the family member is indeed imminent. Thank you, though!
