Foxtrot100 Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 So I’ve been seeing this guy off and on for about eight months, we have known each other for over three years though but under circumstances are not officially together. Long story short, last night we had a few glasses of wine and we’re having a topic about exercising and things we would like to change, he made the remark he wanted to “get rid of his stomach and work on himself” and I was teasing him a bit, finishing with “I love you just the way you are”. Well we’ve always been hesitant about expressing our feelings and now I threw out a bomb like that. Overall I just meant it in an endearing way, as I throw the word love around with people I care about often or even when I’m expressing how much I like something, and I meant it in a form of I accept him the way he is any type of body form, not the term “I’m inlove with you” because to be honest I don’t know if I’m at that point, but it was just word vomit and then I ended up changing the subject. Now I can’t stop replaying it, do I bring it up and explain myself or just bury my head in the sand hoping he doesn’t over think it? Because honestly he went dead silent when I said it.
basil67 Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 "I love you just the way you are" is not the same as a heartfelt "I love you". If he over thinks it, it's his problem. You've done nothing wrong. However, I would suggest you not spend too much time and thought on a guy who you can't have a proper relationship with. 2
preraph Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 No, no, he can't possibly think that means you were in love with him. It would be a perfectly normal thing to say to anyone. Do NOT explain or he will suspect you did mean it. Just never think of it again. It was not embarrassing. 1
Gretchen12 Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Don't explain, you'll make it worse. If you MUST, find a opportunity to say that exact phrase to a girl friend of yours when you're all together. It's rather silly and I don't think necessary.
stillafool Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 "I love you just the way you are" means nothing so I'm sure he didn't take it to mean that you are in love with him.
Versacehottie Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Don't overthink it. Ok a word slip, but now probably helpful to both of you because 8 months is long enough, to have whatever it is and will be come to the surface. That's what i think will happen in the near future.
