Candis01 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I'm pretty average, I'm 5'3", 125. But I have huge thighs, my thighs are what make me weigh so much. They are mostly muscle, but there is a medium amount of fat around them. My thighs rub together, and the spread way out when I sit down. It drives me crazy. Does anyone know what I can do to tone them?

I can't see that spot reducing exercises would reduce the size of your thighs if they're already primarily composed of muscle tissue. Protein is the number one muscle builder - so if you're currently more athletic than you want to be then reducing your protein intake and stepping up on fruit and veggies might help. Please, please make sure you consult a nutritionist first, however. Your health and looks could deteriorate quickly if you don't get all the protein you need. Obviously you just want to make sure that you're not currently exceeding your necessary intake of it.
Dean3922 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 It is hard to lose in target areas. Weight loss will be over the entire body. You might want to consider liposuction.
seductress989 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I have currently lost 40 pounds and several inches off my thighs. I'm only 5'4 and it's took me almost a year to lose this weight. If your want your thighs to slim down and become more toned, I suggest taking a look at your diet first. Is it high in sodium? If so you may want to reduce your sodium intake b/c it makes you retain water. (your legs can retain a lot of water) Second, I suggest that you work out on a regular basis. I work out 5 days a week and do cardio(at least 30 mins on treadmill)lunges, and pilates to target my thighs. I hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Slapshot2286 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 This may not make a difference, since I'm a guy, but I know that losing weight for women, you start to lose your breasts first. Legs are very hard to target for women, even though the majority of women have very nice legs.... Anyway, there are certain exercises you can do to firm up the thigh area. Using both the hip abductor and hip flexor exercises, as well as what's called the thigh/butt buster to some people, will help firm up your leg area and burn some of the fat off. Cardio is very important. I would recommend running on an elliptical machine or bicycling, as they use more of your leg muscles and put less stress on your joints. In your weight training, use light to moderate weight. Don't go heavy. You want to tone the muscle you have, not build more. And very important: make sure you stretch for 5-10 minutes before and AFTER workouts, and possibly before you go to sleep and when you wake up. Get the muscles stretched out (elongated). That will make your legs firm and smooth. One more thing, working the muscles will burn the fat...keep that in mind. Oh and by the way, your height/weight combo are completely normal, so its not like you have to work on getting in shape first, you sound fine to me.
big_girls_rock Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Stairs! They are amazing for loosing and toning up thighs- I took the stairs in school for like 2 years 5 days a week and though I have been running everynight the thing is- I have gr8 legs that are still toned from the stairs. Not bulky but toned and lean looking- though my inner thighs are blah I know some moves for that too- so try the stairs the muscle will last forever. Its been three years since I was in that school and I still have the legs. Oh and its ok for your legs to touch a little bit- women have estrogen in their legs which contains energy to help warm up our privates and to keep that area good for childbirth.
