I've been with my boyfriend for almost 1 year. He's currently on the other side of the country doing some sort of in-class military training. He's been away for almost 2 weeks now. 1 more week to go. I understand he's busy studying and what not but I hardly hear from him and now I'm concerned. I do tend to overthink things. I've spoken to him, maybe twice over the phone since he's been away and received only 1 or 2 text from him. Everyday he likes my facebook posts so I do know that he's safe. That also tells me that he does have some sort of free time. He's not been one to always be on his phone, but I know he loves me so I thought he would've at least taken a little bit more time to check in with me either by phone, text or even email. Should I be concerned? Should I say something or is this just me overthinking everything and throwing it out of proportion? Thoughts?

In addition to the formal aspects of the program there are team building events. The military is not like other jobs. He has little privacy & there are security concerns. If he as deployed you would hear from him even less.

The technological ability to be connected 24/7 has spoiled us.

Try to remain confident. Trust him. See how he is when he gets home. Consider this training for you too, about how you would handle a deployment. I'm married to a Marine vet but I could not handle being with him if he was on active duty. Being a military SO is not for everyone.

There is nothing that you've written that would cause me anxiety were I in the same situation.

What do you do with your free time?

It does seem strange to me. The time it takes for him to go to your face book and like something, he could have typed 'Hi".

Maybe it looks bad if he takes out his phone to text, but if he's at a computer on the internet, and no one is looking at the screen, he can pretend to look busy.

But still, he's an adult and it's training, not prison. It could also be how he is when he is away. You haven't known him for that long.

He may be able to go to Facebook but when he’s doing that, he may not be in a position to talk privately to you. I wouldn’t worry about it.
