Angelina1433 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 This is so embarrasing but - I'm thinking about getting a wax job "downtown", but I don't know what to expect. Simple questions for anyone who knows - does it hurt? How long does your hair have to be (or not be)? How often do you have to get it done to maintain? Is it really worth it, or could I continue to shave. Don't even know if this is the place to post, but any feedback is appreciated! Angel~
933KJL Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Never had it done (I am a guy) but from what I hear, it does hurt a lot but the pain gets better the more you do it. To ease the pain hair should be trimmed fairly close but no closer than 1/4"--apparently the wax needs to grab onto somethign. I think that as you do it more often the intervals between wax jobs decreases. I dated a girl who was there every two weeks at first and now it is down to a month to 6 weeks. But there is no stubble and when it does begin to grow back, again no real stubble and from what I hear it does not itch as much. Are you going for the shaping trimming, or the whole enchilada. I hear that you also need to have no embarassment because the waxer will become very close with you
JS17 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I've done both the waxing and shaving. Waxing hurts but the pain goes away and you don't have to worry about it for another few weeks. Shaving is more convenient and less expensive but you have to do it more often and it's never as smooth. 933KJL is right about the stubble. When you shave and it starts to grow back it itches but you don't get that with waxing. He is also correct when he said To ease the pain hair should be trimmed fairly close but no closer than 1/4"--apparently the wax needs to grab onto something. Also don't get it done right before you get your period, your skin is more sensitive at that time. I can't tell you if it's worth it or not but I would say if you have a boyfriend or spend a lot of time at the beach or are an underwear model waxing is the way to go. When it's not summer and i'm without a boyfriend I don't have to panic if I'm not "in order" for a day or two so I shave.
Author Angelina1433 Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 Thanks, JS17 & 933JKL for the advice. I didn't even take the period thing under consideration. I think I'm going to try it once to see how I like it. I don't have a boyfriend (as you know) but I'm just sick of shaving and like to keep it maintained - just in case - JJ!
Tiggerlove Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I've never had it done either, but from what I've heard, its much better than shaving. I hate the shaving because it leaves little red spots after 2 or 3 days. Then it itches! My question is--Where can you get this kind of waxing done at? Any normal salon? What is it called so that when I ask to get waxed "down there" I don't sound like a 12 year old trying to explain where I'd like to get waxed? When you have it done, let us know how it went!
JS17 Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 It depends where you live as to where you can have this done. Try calling some regular salons in your area to find out if they wax. It's called a bikini wax. A Brazilian bikini wax is if you want it ALL taken off.
Kitteney Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 All I can say is please be sure to go to someone who has a lot of experience--ask your friends. I went to someone whose experience consisted mostly of waxing upper lips and eye brows. Not so much with bikini area. I had 2nd degree burns. So I invested in laser hair removal. It stings a little and requires multiple treatments but definitely worth it--at least for me anyway.
JS17 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Just went for my Brazilian remembered some tips that would have been helpful when I was a newbie. 1- wear underwear that you don't care about, you'll probably get wax and baby powder on them. 2- If you're going for a Brazilian wear a thong, otherwise you have to wear nothing and trust me, they can see everywhere. 3- take 2 asprin/advil about an hour before you go 4- a couple of days later, use a mild exfoliator to keep from getting ingrowns 5 - Before you go, Drink a bottle of wine and you won't feel a thing
ThumbingMyWay Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 5 - Before you go, Drink a bottle of wine and you won't feel a thing  Brazilian wax...hhmmm...I am a guy and I'd like to get one. Maybe leave a little patch at the base of my member.....but to have a smooth ass crack would be sweet.....less dingle berrys from wiping.. :lmao:
JS17 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 less dingle berrys from wiping.. :lmao:  Since you're male you probably wouldn't be able to handle the pain I suggest starting with just a shave.
ThumbingMyWay Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005  Since you're male you probably wouldn't be able to handle the pain I suggest starting with just a shave. what so:sick: about that?. So you mean to tell me when your in the shower and wiping your ass crack...you dont get those TP gibleetoes caugth in your hair?...... :lmao: ...I must be the only one who gets those And I used to shave my balls and patch clean....but let it come back and never stayed with it....beside my wife likes the hair...it adds friction... and I am not sure HOW I could shave my crack.....I mean, maybe my wife could help???.....I can see it now....me standing there bent over with my hands holding my ass cheeks open and saying "I think you missed some"...
Art_Critic Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 and I am not sure HOW I could shave my crack.....I mean, maybe my wife could help???.....I can see it now....me standing there bent over with my hands holding my ass cheeks open and saying "I think you missed some"... I use an electric beard razor for down there.. You just set the blade depth for the amount of hair you want to keep and shave it off.. I've been doing that since an ex gf said it looked like I needed a shave. It's all nice and neatly trimmed even the crack.. No dingle berries
JS17 Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 beside my wife likes the hair...it adds friction... Good point. So just trim it instead of taking it all off or just leave it in some um "strategic" spots.
MattB Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 just thought I'd pipe in here. Do not, I repeat DO NOT shave your ass hair. If you want a reason read this: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/lax/35274458.html You may think it's written in jest, but trust me, it's 100% true

sundrop Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 A friend of mine had the whole kit and caboodle done right before her wedding. She had never had it done before, she didn't know whay she was ordering and thought she was ordering the brazialian and ordered the whole things bare, when they did one side she literally Sh*t on herself. They of course had to stop and give her a few glasses of wine, before they could finish. She never went back.. She called me and told me this and I :lmao: God it was funny...
FataMorgana Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 I've been getting it waxed for years as I find it easier than having to handle all the shaving drama. A couple of things to keep in mind for waxing (same as for shaving tho), you always somehow long term end up with more hair than you originally started with. What seems like smal soft fluff originally that slightly bothers..after you wax it turns up in strong hairs that bother a lot more. ... and the higher you get the bikini line done, the higher you have to go everytime after... so maybe start conservatively. Second thing with waxing is you have to really watch the ingrown hairs, cause they don't all grow back at the same time as with shaving, after 2 weeks or so is the worst for ingrowns and can get some nasty infections. I found this liquid called "ingrown go" or something that has made my life a lot more pleasant in the last few years . As JS said exfoliating is a need. As for the pain you quickly get used to it, if you get someone who knows what they are doing really doesn't hurt so much.

Dargan Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I first shaved my wife when we married and largely keep her smooth or xtreme short. We have moved past waxing, depilation and neet, once we discovered brazilians. She gets a full leg and brazilian regularly now, about every month or so, and it is great. I worship her smooth cha cha and at 45, she still gets looks from other females in change rooms etc.
NatoPMT Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I thought the Brazilian was the landing strip wax, and the Hollywood was the dare to bare version. I have a word of advice, dont do this at home. I used to until i pulled at the wrong angle and bruised myself quite badly. It didnt actually hurt that much, but you can do yourself some damage. Almost all beauty salons so this, the thought of kneeling on all 4's with someone ripping away down there scares the pants back onto me.
