I'm really freaked out right now. I was just in the shower and pulled a tampon out of me that I didn't even know was in there. I don't even remember when I put it, the earliest would've been a day ago, maybe two? Does this mean I'm going to get toxic shock syndrome? I have no idea what to do or how to clean my insides out to make sure there's no bacteria there, anyone have any ideas? I'm freaking out here and not to be gross but the tampon was extremely smelly so I'm sure my insides aren't so fresh right now. Please help if you have any knowledge on this subject....thanks.

I'm sure you don't have toxic shock because from what I understand the symptoms are pretty defined with nausia, fainting, etc. however if you are that concerned about it...call your Gyno right now...they can tell you for sure what things you can do...

Take a deep breath I'm sure your fine...

I don't have a gyno!! But I guess it is a good sign that I don't feel sick. It's just that I have to work in an hour and if I'm sick there I won't be able to leave!

Well look in the phone book and call a gyno...ask them the questions you have they will help you...

Also, you should be getting yearly checkups anyway...sorry had to be a mom there for a minute...

It doesn't have to be a gyno. Call your regular doctor.

Yup, just get yourself to any Dr. Even a walkin clinic will do.

Try not to worry, I know it's scary! Once I was at work and it was SO busy...I couldn't remember if I pulled out my tampon before putting another up there...Anyway, about 5 mins later I took that one out and used a pad. Luckily it was still busy at work so I didn't have time to freakout about it. The minute I got home I went to see the DR and she checked me out. Ha, there was not a second tampon up there!

I just think since I have no symptoms I'm ok? sound right? I couldn't go to the doctor's cuz I had to work right after I pulled it out. But now I've worked a full shift and it's like 10 hours after i pulled it out and i'm ok....do the symptoms develop in time?

I would go ahead and just make sure all is okay...Make an appt with the Dr. You certainly can take an hour off of work to head in the direction of your Dr.

I don't know how to answer your question...No clue how long TSS would take. But if you happen to get a fever in the next few days and/or get cramps that feel odd, I would definately go to the Dr quickly.

I think Toxic shock syndrome is not very common anymore. I know when my mom was young it was common, when tampons first came out, but they know what materials caused it and have removed most of them, they have to put the warnig on the packing now.

BUT I would still go see a doctor.

Leaving a tampon in to long and cause dryness and throw your bodies chemistry off wack, and could cause a infection. (my gyno told me this during my last checkup, because I had just ended my last period and I use nothing but tampons and was on he verge of a infection)

If you do have TSS, its nothing to mess with so go get yourself checked out, just to be safe.
