ladybird Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 I suffer from very painful headaches that don't seem to match any symptoms for the different types of headaches, but seem to be a mix of symptoms of migraine and cluster headaches. Pain on one side of head (can be either side). Throbbing Pain. Constant, non-stop pain for two to three days. Painkillers don't even come close to relieving the pain. Effects one side of my face, ie eye swells up and constantly waters, toothache and runny nose. Pain worse when lying down only thing that helps pain is aerobic exercise!! once I can get over pain of jumping around for a while, endorphins (I am guessing) are the only things that can relieve the pain, sometimes only temporary giving me a blessed couple hours of relief until it comes back or if late on second or third day, can get rid of pain completely. Does anyone else suffer headaches like these and if so, is there anything you do to relieve the pain? I have seen my doctor who had ruled out anything serious, has changed birth control pill I was on (sometimes cause of migraines) and I have cut out trigger foods. any advice?
Naive Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Maybe you should get a second opinion. Headaches can be a sign of something serious, specially if they last for days. I get migraines every now and then but with a couple of advild, some sleep and no light I can get rid of them. They are so bad that I throw up at times but the doctor found that it was in fact migraines. No medicine works on me EXCEPT advil ibuprofen, those are GREAT!!!! Try going to another doctor. It cannot be normal. It might not be something real bad but obviously there is something wrong if you keep getting them and they last that long. If you don't want to go to another doctor ask the same one to run more tests on you, YOU ARE PAYING HIM/HER!!!! Hope it goes well.
RecordProducer Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I agree with Naive that you need a second opinion. Unless some serious tests have been performed, your doctor can't say it's nothing. It's your brain that is hurting you so it can't be taken unseriously. Every pain is a sign that something is wrong. When my friend had headaches in her early 20s, she went to the doctor, and was diagnosed epilepsy. If migraine is excluded and he doesn't know what it is then he better be worried. The best (and probably the only way) to find out is MRI. Request a referral for one; hopefully you have insurance. MRI gives precise results about every single point of any bodily tissue. It can recognize strange cells (different in colors) on a very little spot of any part of your body. MRI examination would set a precise diagnosis (or exclude anything serious).
