who pays for the trip?

So me and my friend were talking today and she asked me about her situation, which is she and her bf are long distance and he wants her to come see him. she then told me that she's having money trouble now and probaly wont be out of them until beginning of next year, but they really want to see each other. so she asks me if she should ask him to pay for the ticket and she pays him back, or if they should go dutch on it or what..I asked if she could pay for half and she said she could, so my advice to her was ask him to pay half as well. but then she said to me she was plannin on goin for her birthday, and she said that would be a great gift from him for him to pay for it all i think she said the ticket was like 250 or so..

 

now for me, i think she should go dutch on it, but then again, if shes goin for her bday, and he wants her to come out there, then that would be a great bday present for her and he would benefit as well..so what are your opinions?

Assuming the b/f has the money to spare & he knows about her financial situation, then he should be willing to pay the full amount, if not, then certainly half the cost.

 

As for the birthday gift thingie...... He can't read her mind. If she thinks it would be a great gift then she should tell him. He may have something else planned & it's never occurred to him.

 

(of course how long they've known each other is an important factor here - if they've kinda just met then she shouldn't expect anything & not accept the burden of obligation if he offers)

yea same thing i was thinkin too..ill have to ask her about how long theyve been dating and whanot..if im right i think she said its been a few weeks or so
