I make a southwestern pasta salad that's awesome and all you need is a high speed blender to mix up the dressing. Have you ever had beyond burger? I'd make those with the pasta salad and corn on the cob or other veggie since it's something you could do with just one pot and then have the cake!

Does he like basketball? Maybe DVR the finals so he can watch the series on a comfy couch while he recovers from the food coma you put him in.

Hihi, no, he doesn't like basketball, he likes cycling, but I am not sure if any cycling is on right now :/

I think a pasta salad is also a nice idea, because I can already prepare that the day before and put it in the fridge. Those things are always more tasty the day after anyway, when all the flavors have already mixed :)

And we love making vegan burgers, there also is a nice vegan burger joint next door... but I think it is nicer to make something myself than having 'take out', because it's more romantic :)

As long as he acknowledges the anniversary too. I just don't want you to go crazy & have him disappoint you.

If he's getting home at 8 a.m. Pick him up, drive him home & climb into bed with him. When he falls asleep you get up & start to deal with this meal you are planning.

I have to ask though if you are vegan, don't cook, own 1 rusty pot, what exactly do you eat? Make that I guess. You can't just serve baked potatoes. At the very least make baked sweet potatoes because they are healthier & serve a side salad. Read through recopies on the internet & find something you think you can make.

What the love language thing means is he just wants you there You need him to touch you, even hand holding, while you are together. All in all it's easy for you two to speak each other's languages because they are impossible to do apart.

I really hope he will acknowledge it... I mean, he's not a romantic as me, but he knows it is important to me, so I do hope he wants to also indulge a bit in romance on that day.

I never said I don't cook, I do cook, I just don't think I am a great cook, and especially not as good as he is. He always whips things up out of nowhere from scratch and it's ALWAYS tasty... I try recipes from the internet and... it seldom turns out as it's supposed to... so yeah, I just don't think I am that great at it.

You can make a lot of nice meals with an old and tiny pan, I live in a single person household, so I don't cook large quantities. I have a nice pot (my BF got it for me for Christmas). I should buy a new pan though, haha!

The love language really intrigues me.

Do you know of any other books/tests that are similar to it?

Other than Meyers Briggs.

It's definitely better the next day and it's a little bit detailed so the day before would probably work well.

Stuffed peppers can work well too and you can just pop them in the oven from the fridge if you make those the day before. You're so lucky to have a place right next door! I almost always have to cook my own food because choices are so limited around here and I have to drive 20 minutes or more for good take out.

No wonder why you don't cook much, neither would I!

Yes, vegan options are much better close to his house/in his city; but unfortunately in my city, the options are limited (but there is a really nice vegan cafe around the corner for my house, and I am there ALL THE DARN TIME! Haha!)...

I will just go there a day early and go shopping and prepare everything!

Aw he'll probably appreciate that :)

Oh boy. You can't HOPE he will acknowledge the anniversary. You have to TELL him you are planning this special stuff for your anniversary.

I hate to be Debbie Downer but I have seen sooooo many women get their hearts broken when the poor schmuck they are dating fails this test. I think it's lovely that you want to acknowledge this milestone but for heaven's sake, tell him. If you don't & he doesn't respond he will feel like a jerk & you will be hurt. All you have to do to have the great night you want is send him a quick text (as much as I hate texting) --

Hey honey. I'
m
so
looking forward to having you back on [day of the week]. The fact that it's our 1 year dating anniversary will make our reunion that much sweeter. Hope you enjoy what I have planned. See you in [# ] days! Love, HeavenonEarth

Communication solves or prevents sooooo many problems.

I don't expect to be disappointed, he was going to stay abroad for much longer but shortened his stay and put his return ticket for this day especially because he knows it is our one year first-date anniversary.

So i think he knows what to 'expect' from my side, and that I will put effort into making the day as magical as can be.

Well, you don't want to do what one of my ex's did... I got home from a business meeting and there was a scrawled note on the table: "Out with my girls. Don't wait up. Hungry man in the freezer." She didn't even sign it...:(

What's a hungry man in the freezer? Sounds creepy!!!

I am a highly romantic person and always do everything in the most romantic way possible. And he knows this, so I am sure he knows what to expect from me, haha!

Don't do the rose petals. They are expensive. They are a pain to clean up. They stain.

After being jet lagged he will find them annoying not romantic.

I'd do it on the second day he is back for his birthday!

I already got them :)

Good luck. Remember what I said about the staining. You don't want to ruin your best quilt.

I am sure his IKEA bedsheets will be fine.

But I think I will bring one of my pink blankets to his house and throw it over the bed, just in case.

Exactly. No idea what CO is talking about. ;) @ CO

You want a satiated man in the bedroom, not a hungry man in the freezer. This is not a good time to put the relationship on ice.

I'm afraid he'll be too tired to do anything but eat a quick meal and go to sleep.

Maybe wait a day or so so that he will be recovered from the trip. Then it will really be a surprise. Ha ha ha …

Bake a cake for him. Make sure it's his favorite cake with frosting.
