Hi, i first found this site when my relationship broke up last year, i looked at alot of the stuff that was similar to the **** i was dealin with and it helped alot

The problem i have now is that i keep getting these 'black' phases, times when i'm so down nothing matters, i'm just existing. These phases are getting longer and more frequent, does anyone else have this problem? if so can you tell me anything to help me deal with it cos i'm really starting to run out of ideas

Hi ska.

Have you been to see your GP about this? If not, definitely would be an idea. I don't know if you're having trouble sleeping and concentrating, or if you've had thoughts about harming yourself in any way...but if so, then those are things you really must mention at your appointment to help the doctor make a proper diagnosis.

What's your routine like? Is there any way you could fit in some sort of exercise programme? (Preferably something that will take you outdoors some of the time - even if it's just a daily walk). Some sort of project might energise you and give you a sense of purpose...and learning a new skill is always good for promoting your confidence and making life feel a bit less stale.

Also, make a point of renting some comedy films and working hard to stay in touch with some of the more comic aspects of life. Humour is an amazing coping mechanism, and has helped a lot of people get through dark times.
