A "Service Crush" is when you like someone like the waitress at the restaurant you're at, or the sales person helping you pick out a pair of shoes, or whatever.

The problem is, in customer service, as an employee you are required to be friendly, smile, and be really nice to customers, and it's easy to misinterpret that as flirting or more than what it is.

For example, at my previous job in shoe sales, I would get customers asking me out out of no where. I would have to ask myself later if I sent the wrong signals. When it came down to it, I was just doing my job.

I also read somewhere that men tend to misinterpret friendliness from women as flirting and it's due to the fact that men are not as capable as women at reading people.

I have a crush on my pharmacist. I used to live in the same building as her and only managed to stammer through a couple of conversations in the laundry room. I don't even know if she remembers. But it's only a minor crush. I like to smile back and exchange a few pleasantries. Just puts a nice spin on the day; who doesn't like talking to a pretty girl?

The worst service flirters seem to be girls selling men's clothing, especially more expensive suits. I nearly got talked into buying a Hugo Boss suit once (it did look great) by a particularly flirtatious saleswoman. I wear a suit maybe once a year.

If you've ever seen 'Adaptation' there's a scene where Nicolas Cage fantasizes about the local diner waitress. Then gets awkwardly shot down when he asks her out. That's what I would sort of expect if I ever tried it.

I personally don't find it difficult to distinguish between politeness/friendliness -vs- flirting/interest :o

I haven't had a service "crush" but I did in fact date a guy (for a very brief time) who was an employee @ the resteraunt that I frequented w/ my sister and her co-workers......

Thinking back I guess it was kind of confusing at first :o but after a few stares and finally a smile from him (a cheesy, red faced smile) I got the hint. ;) He slipped me his number on a napkin when he cleared the table for us and that was that! (short lived affair, basically all he had going for him was the fact that he was a hottie...he lacked in personality, ect) so it was a brief yet passionate affair!!  :bunny::laugh:

I don't remember ever having a "Service Crush" but one time this guy who was way older than me, asked me out after buying a pair of shoes that I helped him pick out, and I felt weird about turning him down, you know after he bought the shoes.

I just remembered that I do kinda have this crush on this guy who works at the art house movie theatre downtown that I go to often. I like his suspenders and shorts. Not many people can pull that off. Oh, and when I opened up a savings account, the guy who was helping me with it at my bank was very cute and so friendly.

I think "service crushes" are really common.
