SovietPickles Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 So I'm actually really bad at human contact (lol) and this girl I'm dating is too. We are not good at talking to eachother because we just started going out. Is there an easier way to start a conversation? Is there any tips or something? Im just kind of a quiet guy and she is a quiet lady and I really want this to work out. Any help would be appreciated.
CautiouslyOptimistic Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 There should be a zillion things for you guys to talk about if you just started going out. If she's up for it, purchase a "game" (not really a game) called Table Topics. It's a box full of questions to get to know someone. When I first started dating the last person I went out with, we took a lot of weekend car trips to his property "up north" and we'd do that in the truck on the way there and back. Also, in general, a former boss once gave me this tip (for cocktail parties, but it works anywhere).....one simple question...."So what's keeping you busy lately?" 3
Miss Spider Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 When my ex and I first started dating he did not talk much at all so when it got quiet I opened my phone and pulled up 20 questions like things and it got the conversation rolling, it was fun 1
Happy Lemming Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I research local "feel-good" stories in the news... NO POLITICS!! I also ask "Tell me what book or books you are reading?? Favorite author??

I want to take the lead in a conversation. You would probably be better off with an extrovert woman who can guide the conversation. You know, I'm not experienced at dating, but if it's not there, it's not there. If it's there, it's there. Conversation or silence shouldn't be awkward or hard to deal with. 1

preraph Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 To be interesting, you have to be interested and keeping up with things. I suggest you read actual newspapers and some magazines so you get real news, for starters, and not rely on cable news or the internet for it. Then beyond that, keep up with whatever your hobbies are and be conversant in that. Find someone with a same interest that you have. Do things together so you can talk about that together. Know a little something about everything, sports, entertainment, music, arts, politics, etc. Volunteer for a charity or something like that where you meet people and are doing something you'd feel proud of. If you're not interested in anything much, not only will you have nothing to talk about worth talking about but you also won't be interesting to anyone much. 1
