I know this is not the most important issue lol

I always gain a few pounds when I'm in a relationship! Eating and cooking together is one of my favorite things to do... For me cooking a good meal and enjoying it together is a really big part of romance. Cutting that out would be so sad.

I don't even eat unhealthy stuff, just more than usual. I'll have a glass of wine or two even though I don't drink when I'm alone (that also adds to the calories). Also my boyfriend gets sad when I don't finish my plate =D He likes women with a good appetite :lmao:

How do you keep your weight in check without losing the romance factor ?

Trying to maintain your existing fitness routine helps a lot. If possible, find active things to do together as well as cooking.

Maths.

Work out your daily calorie allowance using an online calculator (or as a rough guide, 2000 for females, 2500 for males). Add up the calories in what you cook, and don't exceed the daily amount. After a while you won't need to keep adding it up as you will get an intuitive feel for it. I tend to find recipes I like and then add them to my list of regular dishes, in which case you only need to put in the effort once per recipe (and record the result).

Cooking doesn't have to mean eating more.

On a side note, try to minimize as much as possible the amount of oil/fat you cook with. You'll be amazed how many calories there are in even a small amount of oil. I almost invariably at least halve the amount of oil that a recipe recommends and it usually works out fine. In my opinion a lot of cooks use lots of oil out of laziness, because it's easier to cook with a heavily oiled pan. But it's perfectly possible to use a minimal amount. You can get oil sprays that cover the pan evenly whilst significantly lowering the amount of oil.

Another method I commonly use is my own variant of the 5:2 diet. I aim a little lower than my daily limit on week days and I'm fairly strict about it, but then I don't watch what I eat on the weekend (within reason). That is congruent with the most common lifestyle, where weekdays are for working and weekends are for relaxing and having fun!

This happens to me too! Going out more, getting drinks..... it is definitely harder to maintain weight when dating.

There's a bad joke about this:

Why are single women skinnier then women in relationships? The single women look in the 'fridge, get disgusted by it's emptiness & go to bed. Coupled up women, look in the bed, get disgusted & go in the 'fridge.

You do tend to eat & drink more when it's a social thing. Try making healthier, lower calories meals. Take a walk together after dinner or go dancing, even in the living room. Pay more attention to what you are eating when you are not with your SO so you have some extra calories for the together times. Add additional work outs to your routine.

My bf is tall and lean and he loves eating and he has a sweet tooth so I cook and bake like never before and it's showing on me and not even one bit on him. My daughter even makes jokes that since I met my bf my fridge is full again.

So before the holidays I decided I needed to lose a few lbs. I continued cooking and baking for my bf and daughter BUT I cut my portion in half, skipped everything sweet. If I made chicken and rice and salad I would only serve myself the chicken and salad. I lost 17-lbs :-)

My bf is like yours. He thought it sucked that I didn't have desert with him or I didn't want chocolate and chips at the movies. I simply said I felt much better and had more energy when I avoided those food. He got used to it. Now when we settle down for a movie at home we traded the big bowl of chips for a big bowl of grapes.

I think what many couples fail to realise... and the main reason many women often put on weight in relationships faster than their other half, is just how drastic the calorie requirement difference is between men and women. Particularly taller or bigger guys. If a 180-200lb guy is dating a 120lb woman, they just can't eat the same portion sizes. Yet most couples will server pretty similar size portions for each partner, or they'll go out to eat and both have similar quantities. His needs to be at least 50% bigger! Or, to put it another way, hers needs to be 2/3rds the size of his. Actual numbers will vary between couples depending on height, musculature, and frame size, but you get my point.

It's pretty obvious...you take in more calories, you need to burn more calories....exercise more, like go for a long walk after dinner....find other ways to be romantic than stuffing your faces with food...more time between the sheets.

Lets say you eat a chocolate cake at 500 calories then to burn this with exercise you need to run on a treadmill at 10 m/h pace for 45 minutes. It's much easier to just not have the cake lol.

We went shopping not long ago and bf wanted to eat a Macdonald. I don't like that type of food but he's obsessed with BigMacs. On the new platform where you order yourself it shows the calories of your order. He ordered a BigMac Trio + a fish burger, he had something like 1,200 calories!!! I ordered a chicken wrap and a diet coke and my order was 780 calories!! I flipped ! I wanted to leave lol

I'm not in any way defending McDonalds, but if you're going to eat two meals, then you can't be too surprised if it comes in at 1200 calories (in fact that's actually pretty low for two meals!).

I thought the same thing. I think the Big Mac alone is 1200 calories.

It was not 2 meals. It was a bigmac trio + a fish sandwich alone. The fish filet is 282 calories. The fish sandwich is not a meal, it's a small piece of frozen fish between 2 flat buns. Two bites and it's gone.

I looked it up. A regular Big Mac has 540 calories. That is still a lot for somebody on a diet but less than I would have thought.

The fries & the soda do add up though
