Hello everyone.

I've been speaking to this guy in his early 30s who has sideburns. He is a lovely guy and we have a lot in common and I have accepted going on a date with him on the weekend.

I'm just wondering whether or not a guy sporting sideburns would put you off or not?

None of my exes had sideburns and in all fairness I can't even recall the last time I saw a guy with sideburns. Are they popular at all? I asked my mother and she said they were old-fashioned and uncommon.

I don't mind them to be honest. However, I do wonder if people think he is weird because I've noticed quite a few people do tend to look at him.

His sideburns are pretty much identical to what Elvis Presley had in his earlier years:

Thanks.

I don't care for sideburns but if I otherwise liked the guy I'd get past something as trivial & changeable as sideburns.

I agree with D0nnivain. If I liked him enough, I'd get past it (and hope that he got past the style quickly)

Where I live, there are many people who do alternative fashion. It would barely raise an eyebrow.

Dang, those aren't just side burns, those are some chops!

Personally, not a fan of extreme side burns. What is his style like? Seems like I see those on hipsters or new age hippies.

I like this sort of side burn, not so much the extreme ones:

I don't think he will be getting past the style any time soon. I jokingly asked him about the sideburns a little while back and he told me he's a massive fan of Elvis Presley and he influenced him into sporting them.

He isn't into alternative fashion, he's always either dressed in a casual or smart manner.

He is the exact opposite of a hipster or a hippy, he is a very traditional and reserved guy.

They are always well groomed, they are the exact same as Elvis Presley's in the 1960s, not like Presley's in the 1970s when they were a lot thicker and longer.

I wonder if I'm just making potentially a big deal out of nothing, he certainly looks nice and suits them.

I cannot stand mustaches and swore I would never show myself in public with a man wearing a mustache.

When I met my bf he was wearing a goatee and that I find sexy. Then one day he shows up at my door without the bottom part of the goatee and only the mustache!! I went what is THAT?? You shave that off right now!! of course he refused. I had to get used to the fact that 6 days out of the week he has a goatee and 1 day he has a mustache! I got used to it and now I don't even see it.

In your case I would not mind the sideburns so much, IF he had a bad@ss biker look it would suit him better though BUT I would be really suspicious of a grown up man mimicking a celebrity that's for teenage boys no?

I wouldn't mind and I find it quite manly! Of course, depends on how it looks on a specific face, wouldn't suit someone with a thin long face I think :)

This thread strikes me as bizarre. Who cares what WE--a bunch of strangers over the Internet--think about sideburns. I mean, would that change your opinion as to whether to keep seeing him

The only question is whether YOU are attracted.

Recent Change, the man I recently started dating has that exact style of sideburns. They look great on him (and he has similar full hair though it's not styled to stand up like that) and he is very clean shaven.

had to edit the hair part :-)

If I had a girlfriend who like sideburns, I would wear them. Sideburns can be changed. I grew a beard solely because a woman I was interested in (who I thought was interested in me as well) somewhat inferred she liked guys with beards. I would shave it off if she didn't like it. At the same time, I would expect the woman to hold up her end. I like long hair so in exchange for me shaving, or not shaving, she would need to keep her hair long.

That's funny, just the other day a girl was complaining about how weird her BF looks without sideburns. He's got them shaved all the way up where his ears start.

I never thought I was this shallow, but after clicking on the links and seeing the examples OP posted, I would definitely be turned off, and I don't think I'd be able to get past it. I like my guys scruffy and not immaculately groomed. Those sideburns would have to done deliberately, and that look is not my thing. Just a personal preference.

Does it make a difference if a full beard is attached to those sideburns?

Then it's a beard......

Elvis side burns are pretty quirky, not exactly in current fashion. Kinda like waxed mustaches etc (which unfortunately have made a certain come back).

This guy sports "Elvis" chops..... That would make me think twice. In the same that I don't know if I could date someone with a giant waxed mustache, I think it looks silly.

Might have been all the rage in Wyatt Earps era, but I think it looks silly now.

I looooooooooooove  sideburns. I've been attracted to guys just for their sideburns. My true weakness :)

Always wondered what women thought of the side burn thing.

One thing gets on my nerves is that even actors in a movie with the best make up artists and hair dressers, the bottom of their sidies in the movie are still often cut crooked or angled backward instead of toward to the front.

They have to end horizontally or angled forward or they look effd.

When you trim your own sidies though it;s hard to trim the ends angling forward, or horizontal , for some reason they often come out angled backward.

But how is it professionals can't even get it right in movies.

Go figure. One of lifes little mysteries .

I know what you mean but it's not like he tries to imitate Elvis Presley by clothes, voice, etc, he just told me he likes the sideburns look when I asked him about them.

I think everyone is influenced by certain individuals in different ways. For example, I like a lot of traditional clothing and I find myself influenced by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, Brigitte Bardot, and other famous actresses and models of the 1950-60s era.

Because I'm interested in what other women's opinions are about men who sport sideburns. It's not something you see every day.

You see that's the thing, I actually do think he suits them and they look nice.

I only like a man to be clean-shaven. However, I don't mind the groomed sideburns that Elvis Presley sported in his earlier years.

But I don't like the length he had them in his later years:

That length is not my cup of tea.

Do you think that some men are still able to pull them off? I admit that it does come across as rather peculiar in this day and age, like I said in my first post, I can't recall the last I saw someone with sideburns apart from the guy I'm going on a date with. Nevertheless, I think he looks fine with them.

I'm not a fan of facial hair in general, but it's not a deal-breaker. I would prefer a shorter sideburn, nothing extending down too low, and hair kept short and neat. Again, I don't know that it would be a deal-breaker.
