Gold Pile Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I purchased a bankrupt little business. I was mainly after their industrial machinery useful in heavy industry. Ya just never know what you're gonna find. The inventory inexplicably included elephant Tusks and Mink coats. Because of legalities, I immediately called the authorities. The former owner may be in trouble over the Tusks. The authorities seized the tusks and I won't be compensated. They said the mink coats are mine to keep. The majority of women in my preferred dating age range (18 to 80) would be revolted by the gift of a mink coat. Up till the early 1980s, mink was a status symbol. So I presented one coat to a slender, fit retiree. I invited her on a date. The date went very well and I spent the evening at her place. Retirees worth dating are not as plentiful as you may think. I don't see another one in my current circle that is worth it. I'm not sure what to do with the coats. Some say selling them would perpetuate the market in fur coats. Of course it seems wasteful to destroy clothing that is still serviceable. It was made, the critters are gone, what's done is done. I considered the salvation army, but I think homeless people in Mink coats sends the wrong message. They'd probably sell them anyway. If anyone sells them, it should be me. Anyhow, it's a weird situation, I'm not sure what I'll do.
Buriall Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Go out and hand one out for the homeless. Im sure they can use some warmth during this holiday seasons. 7
Highndry Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Thank them for their sacrifice, dig a hole, then bury them. 1
Highndry Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 @Highndry that would be a waste!! Meh, not really. They'd be fertilizer for the vegetation. Honestly, I see little difference between wearing leather vs fur. 1
Author Gold Pile Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Meh, not really. They'd be fertilizer for the vegetation. Honestly, I see little difference between wearing leather vs fur. Me too. Leather and fur are both harvested from animals. And Minks are by no means a cute & cuddly creatures. Cows are adorable.

All well and good to warm a homeless person but it just doesn't seem right for the homeless to be sporting status symbol clothing. I'm afraid they'd get less sympathy. If I could find another older hottie, I'd be dating her for sure. I wonder is young Russian women are as anti fur as American women

Point is giving it away without getting back anything in return 1
RecentChange Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Well the hide has been tanned, and will leech harmful chemicals if buried. I say go for a stroll on a cold night and hand them out (that's what I do with my old coats and socks).

Surely and fortunately you haven't spent much time on the mean streets. Even having a decent pair of shoes can get a homeless man beaten and robbed by other homeless and by local toughs in the poorer areas where they often live. Walking around in a mink coat is putting a bull's-eye on your back. 1

I say go for a stroll on a cold night and hand them out (that's what I do with my old coats and socks). Old coats and socks are one thing. But wearing a mink coat would get a homeless person beaten and robbed in no time. A few years ago, footage of a cop buying new shoes for a homeless guy, went viral. A feel good story. A day later the shoes were gone. The homeless gent expressed his appreciation but said nice shoes would get him in trouble on the mean streets. I know a guy who would be interested in buying soiled socks (and other stuff too)....kinky person that he is.

I doubt they would want to spend time walking around in it, it is probably not waterproof either, but it would make a great blanket, but maybe too heavy and bulky to lug around.
Author Gold Pile Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 How many have you got left? If you are a female in my dating age range (18 to 80), I may have a coat for you.
Art_Critic Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I'd sell them as a lot, maybe try a local Furrier first and if not then Ebay. Make a good buck on them but not spend a ton of time dealing with it, worry about the machinery you bought first, by selling them in a lot you are at least selling them less than if you sold them one by one and moving on to other things... 2
OpenBook Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 :lmao: Good luck and Godspeed GP! I have no doubt you will find a good use for them. 2
Author Gold Pile Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Sell em on eBay Thought about it, but I understand that online fur sellers are cyber harassed buy the anti fur crowd. I've been approached by a Black gent who wants to buy a few for his wife, sister, and sister in-law. He says that White anti fur activists would never harass a Black woman. I see his point but we are far apart on price.
CautiouslyOptimistic Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I'm cracking up at your dating age range . Honestly, I'd sell them. I'd call a local fur dealer and ask if they have a consignment service so I didn't have to deal with harassment. 1
Art_Critic Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I'm cracking up at your dating age range . With GP, they may or may not have to be breathing too IMO furs are yesteryear.. I don't have a problem with buying them or selling them but most people don't really wear them anymore.. so selling them consignment will mean he will be stuck with a bunch of them. 1
carhill Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The coats shouldn't be a problem. People into vintage clothing in colder area still like them, film property departments often use them for period work and there are plenty of cold-weather countries where they're still normal outerwear. The doctor I dated in Odessa had a closet full of them, and mink hats as well. I recall a few years ago meeting a LS'er from Macedonia on a cold winter day in Philly and, yup, she had her mink coat on. They were a common sight in the Russian parts of Philly when we were out. Chicago too, and NYC during cold months. People just don't talk about it anymore because it's not PC. My exW used to wear hers to vintage dress-up nights at local theater when they'd put on vintage plays and the audience would dress up in vintage/antique period costumes. Lots of fun. Enjoy your dates! 2
lovephule Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I wonder is young Russian women are as anti fur as American women Not near me. I see a lot of fur but the styling is very contemporary. Hats, coats, vests, boots. Real, not faux, and zero effs given. It's not cold enough here yet for the vintage full-length numbers to come out.
Author Gold Pile Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Why is this in a dating forum?Did you read the OP? These coats have scored me one date already. If I could find Carhill's Russian women, I could score more dates. Otherwise I'd have to do what Art Critic says....sell them to a fur store.
