I am a 21 year old girl he is 22. We know each other through mutual friends but i don't think we've ever formally met (recently we crossed paths at walmart LOL) I am totally crushing on him so should I DM him a "hey". Or is that needy and desperate. I never see him in person so I don't think ill ever get the chance to talk to him that way. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate any feedback.

I DMed someone on Instagram once, will never again as he turned out to be a douche. He blew me off too many times, then once we happened to meet face to face which was ... Unexpected. But I realized he wasn't that serious about me let alone meeting any woman for anything other than a date and it's what it is.

A simply "hey" won't make you sound needy. :)

Go for it!

Sounds like a typical online dating story. I wouldn't be put off DM'ing over Instagram by this story, it could happen anywhere, RL included.

Like with any social media platform, be mindful of the pitfalls. And what I mean by that is he's very likely sending and receiving plenty of messages from lots of women. Just the nature of social media and having followers and following others.

That being said, if you want to send him a DM, go for it.

Just don't have any unrealistic expectations.

Good luck.

If you're going to send him a message at all, I suggest saying a little more than "hey." Ask him a question about one of his photos, for instance.
