Best way to handle being strung along?

Did she do extensive therapy after the exes died and cheated?

How many years did she spend single thereafter?

You say she seems confused? Who knows?! She could be planning on meeting with someone when she's away and is trying to create some internal emotional distance so she can convince herself that she's simply confused, and not a s**t. I don't know. If this offends you, I'm sorry. But you don't really know her well at this point to confidently say that you can take her at her word.

Anyway, since she's playing hot and cold, it sounds like she's enjoying the attention and needs her ego stroked. All her talk about her needing to think it through and blah blah blah paints a picture of someone who thinks she's doing you a favor by talking to you.

I'd pretend as though this wasn't a relationship and move on. If she calls you, tell her you're busy and start slowly distancing yourself.

Just play it cool and pretend like everything is normal on your end.

Look at it this way, if you're just one month in and she's already or still playing games; it's too much drama. Spare yourself the headache and move on.

Personally, I would give benefit of the doubt and give her plenty of space and see what happens. Internally I would prepare for the worst but try to distract myself. I don't think she is playing games, she has been honest about her feelings or lack of and said she needs time to think. If it is stressing you out so much that you think it is not worth it then break it off now. If you think you can wait it out a week or two, take some space and do some thinking yourself. If she continues to be cold or lukewarm then you'll know. I know it sucks when this happens.

It's not a good sign when someone you've only dated a moth is already blowing hot and cold and wants space.

I completely support taking things slowly and seeing how it develops, but in my mind, there is something else going on with her that she's reluctant to share with you. It might have zero to do with you personally, to be clear.

I would personally take a very large step back and observe for a couple more weeks. If she is still distant, then you have your answer.
