Guy begged me to go out again after one date

He didn't ask me to go out again for weeks, but continued to text me, and when I asked why, he then asked me out, and when I wasn't sure, he kept saying to please go out with him and begging me. Was this really weird?

Well, sure he begged. He cavalierly tossed you aside assuming he could do better. When he found out that was not the case, he came crawling back. If you want to be somebody's fall back plan date him. It's possible he can atone for his misjudgment but I'd be very cautious with such a fickle man.
