So their is this girl where I work that I would like to get to know. She works in the same building as me but our jobs have nothing to do with each other so I have never talked to her. We sit in different locations but I know where her desk is and I sometime see her in the hallway or outside. I would like to get to know her and strike up a conversation but like I said, I really don't have much interaction with her. Does anyone know how I should approach this or what I could say to start a conversation?

Thanks!

start out with what you have in common. ask her how she likes working for the company. then ask about her job and what she does. if that goes well then ask her to have lunch together. take things slow.

If you have never spoken to her, what is it about her which makes you want to get to know her?

Might be just a passing fancy. It's not a good idea to get involved with people you work with, either as friends or otherwise. Learned that the hard way in more situations than I care to think about. You'll be happier in the long run with that.

They say you should never dip your pens in the company ink...but if you really want to risk it, the first step is eye contact. You can use that to break the ice before you break it, and create a connection and signals interest. Gauge her response and proceed with extreme caution...

Start by saying hi a couple of times.

The see if you can manage to be near where she is around lunch time. Invite her to join you for lunch or mention that you are going out to happy hour after work.
