I definitely feel you should forget about going after her. You can't assume that just because she's 23 and it's a LDR that it's not serious. My now-husband and I were in a LDR when I was that age. Even though it was too soon for an official engagement or anything, we both already saw a future together.

We were at that point of the relationship and five months in when he started enjoying the company of a girl who lived near him. He even went as far as to straight-out tell her that he had a crush on her. In his mind at the time, it was the kind of light-hearted crush that usually fizzles out after a while, and he didn't know she was interested in him so he never worried about it. She took it the wrong way, though, and tried to make a move on him. When he saw what she was doing he shot her down and told her to forget about having any chances with him. Apparently, she was really hurt because she thought he had led her on. The whole situation ended up being really unpleasant for everyone involved.

That's why I would say leave her alone. If they're really not serious, they'll break-up soon, and you can ask her out then. If you really must say something, tell her to let you know if she's ever single and keep your distance until then. I would have had a lot more respect for the girl I mentioned if shed just done that. My husband was in large part responsible for the whole mess. I'm not going to excuse him, but at least his behavior was due to naivety. She always struck me as selfish for trying to start something while I was in the picture. My husband has come to see her the same way. Many years later, she still comes up in our conversation occasionally, and the things that are said about her aren't very flattering.
