Find a gallery you like, and give a call to see what they have available. All of those things vary from gallery to gallery.

It is a great cheap date first off.. shows you like the finer things

GP .. If you have money you buy art .. Be careful though the Art World is a touchy one.. You need to know and follow a few Artists .. Go to an Art Showing or Gallery and start to do a little research on the Artist first..ie: his/her style, how long he/she has been painting, his/her other showings and painting that have been sold in other auctions.

There would be little or no slack given to someone that doesn't know his art by a Gold Digger date at a gallery.. Most of the women that go to Galleries know their Art and so should you

Becoming a member of a major art gallery is a good idea. I don't know where you live, but the annual Tate membership fee (London) isn't much more than $100 - allowing you to take a guest for free every time you visit. I would think this is standard for most major cities - check it out though.

Membership usually allows you to view special exhibitions, and it also saves queuing for admission tickets each time you visit - and you'll be sent details of forthcoming exhibitions. Sometimes the membership will be valid for two or three fairly decent sized galleries, and there might be perks such as being able to get into a private members' cafe.

I'm thinking of less worldly GD's that might not know much about art. And You know me well enough by now...I won't be buying.

" I like that work there, $30,000 is abit much for a Burt Smith ;) , I've seen his work in a Swiss gallery for half that."

"say GD, ever been to Switzerland? I'll be headed there in a few months...we could stop in Monaco for the best dinner you've ever had.

Say I'm hungry for some commoner food...lets hit that grub shack down the street."

Oh Gold Pile...

You are incorrigible :)

What about your digs - is what I would like to know. I highly doubt you live in a mansion...more like a one room apartment.

So how are you going to explain your way out of THAT?

How's he going to explain that he doesn't know jacksh*t about art - which will be a dead giveaway that he's a fraud. A wealthy guy wouldn't take a date to an art gallery unless he appreciated art and knew something about art, artists, various types of pieces, etc.

Not only that but he's making the mistake of thinking that a receptionist would know nothing about art and that liking/knowing about art is something rich folks do. There are heaps of impoverished students who could run rings around him when it comes to talking about art and at least an equal number of rich folks who wouldn't know a Kandinsky from a K-mart 'painting'.

You don't need to be an art connoisseur to enjoy going to art galleries. Personally, I simply enjoy the visual stimulation involved...and I don't necessarily want it to be interrupted by my date sharing the fruits of his research on the artist (unless he knows some really juicy or amusing details about the artist's personal life that will add spice to my viewing pleasure).

Gold pile could take his art-loving date to an exhibition, do a little research on the artist beforehand so that he isn't completely clueless - then listen as she waxes lyrical about the artist and his work. If she's an expert she'll probably be particularly charmed that her date was so considerate of her interests and preferences when he planned the outing.

Hi April,

I just downsized from a nice but modest house to nice but modest condo. Indeed the digs are going to be an issue.

If am lucky, I can have a fun date while taking a trip somewhere. But the digs will really cut most things short.

" What town are we in?...... ohhh, thats great, I have a little condo around here somewhere, staying at the ritzy hotel was nice, but not homey enough. I try to keep a condo in frequently traveled areas."

If my date knows her art, then I would ask her advice on such things. And hint that I could use her on one of my future art buying trips to Europe. ;)

If she doesn't know her art, then she should be impressed at doing a "rich person" thing.

I believe that anyone (including) a receptionist, could know such things. To the art lover I am the wealthy man that appreciates art and needs her input (for my Euro art buying trip).

If you're going to Europe to buy art, you should already know all about it and not need anybody's advice. Even 'just' a receptionist could figure that out.

Some galleries and museums have events that are designed to draw in the public. For example, in Atlanta the Fernbank Museum of Natural History has a number of fun short lived exhibits that draw people to the museum. Also, every Friday night they have Martini's and Imax... have a Martini, some food, mingle, chat, watch an Imax movie... My SO and I went on Friday and really enjoyed it. He had never been there and was very impressed.
