mortensorchid Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Have you ever wondered what would or wouldn't have happened if OLD never happened? There are all ages and experience levels here on this forum (and others no doubt), and being that I am 42 I remember what it was like in the pre-internet world before most others have. It's so hard to imagine the world before the digital age, it's become such a part of our lives whether it's business or personal. But have you ever wondered what would or wouldn't have happened to our dating / personal lives if the internet did not come into play? And even if it wasn't based on something that is strictly a dating website (Match, POF, etc.), many told me that they met many people somehow online. One gal I met a few years ago told me she met her husband while gaming on her XBox (I'm not into video games myself), another told me he met a gf many years ago when she bought an item from him on EBay. What would our dating lives be like if the internet never happened as it did? 1
kendahke Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 . But have you ever wondered what would or wouldn't have happened to our dating / personal lives if the internet did not come into play? No. What would our dating lives be like if the internet never happened as it did?People would still be placing ads in newspapers like they did 100+ years ago in the lonely hearts section if they weren't satisfied with the local selection. Relationships being not what they should/could be is a result of incompatibility and not having mature communication skills. Technology has nothing to do with that. 1
act00 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Back in the old days, people put ads in the paper and there were those phone dating lines you could subscribe to, and that's what we would still be doing. There were and still are matchmaking businesses. The internet and gaming have made things much easier...and puts you in contact with a lot of mistakes, fraud, creepers, etc. I would have to figure something out because I simply just don't get out much.
Chilli Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 (edited) Yeah , everyone, life, would be like they use to be. We'd still have instincts and common sense instead of trying to find it on a computers and apps. Just read through any forum, the terms, the questions , the way people think,do things and all these apps, it's madness and lost the plot especially the youngies that are growing up in this. l've never dated myself , l just met people somehow. But l'd dread the thought of it now if l ever have to. But, as ya say many do meet online now, ya read it a lot. l met gf after divorce in a forum and l've met some great people here too. But what if .,l think it's pretty obvious what's happening to the world and people when you look around on the net and at the world now, the whole box of rocks has gone to sh@t and just growing worse by day. Stress levels are like never seen before, yet it's all suppose to be soooo much easier, just like this dating crap, yep ! The internet age has overloaded people, the world, ya can see it , it's everywhere. We'd probably all be out there living real lives and be a lot saner is my guess and there'd probably be a lot less confused single people too. Edited September 4, 2017 by Chilli

We'd probably all be out there living real lives and be a lot saner is my guess and there'd probably be a lot less confused single people too. It's not all bad. Thanks to email and internet forums, we have information at our fingertips, support, and even friendships, some of which extend into REAL LIFE! I've met people in person I have met on the net...not OLD but other forums of other interests. OLD is a tool and a useful one that definitely has a down side, but doesn't everything? I agree, with this fast-paced, always in contact and available, is stress. It used to be you came home and you were home. People might stop by. You might get a call. When you went to run errands and were at the store, you had no contact with people until you got home. I remember when answering machines made their appearance - screening calls! Oh yeah, that was quite the invention! It's a different world. It has it's good, it has it's bad. 1
BluEyeL Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Likely I wouldn't have found my husband and that would be a bummer. I'd probably be single now. I met not only my husband but also several friends online, who became real life friends I meet regularly.

In less than two weeks I'm traveling out of state to meet an online friend for the first time. We've been online friends for over 16 years . Girls weekend! Can't wait! 1

alphamale Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 What would our dating lives be like if the internet never happened as it did? dating would be a lot more normal and people would actually talk face to face and exchange thoughts, hopes and dreams.

People would be forced to work on their social skills. Going out and physically interacting with others is more interesting and fun. 1
