I have another story about love that makes you want to believe in it. As jaded as I am, when I hear stories like the one I shared about Joan and Richard (scroll up on this thread to see that one), there is another ...

I have a friend named Kim. About fifteen years ago, she went to a Christmas party at a friend's house on Christmas Day 2003. She had a long time friend named Mark who brought his brother to the party who was in town visiting. She had met his brother, Barry, for a flash maybe ten years before, just "hi how are you", shake hands, that was that. But when he came to the party that Christmas, he and Kim met again and hit it off. One week later, on New Year's Day, Barry asked Kim to marry him. He jaw hit the floor. And she said yes.

I didn't know about this until about six months later, when Kim was pregnant. Barry is disabled after having a terrible accident while in Marine maneuvers, leaving him with a broken back and blind in one eye. On top of that, he told her immediately that he could not have children as he was born with only one testicle. She said that was okay with her. Then six weeks later she found out why she had been getting sick every morning. They moved to Tennessee and got married six weeks before their son was born.

I saw her not too long ago. They're still together. She said, like everything else, marriage is not easy. She has a wonderful son, a wonderful husband who she loves, and she said it's like everything everyone says : When you meet The One, you just know. But there are things that come after that that you don't always anticipate. She is the breadwinner of the household because her husband is disabled. And he had a stroke about two years ago and it's left him very frail. But, we stay together because we want to be together.

Another love story that will make you believe.

While I was volunteering at a hospital a few days ago, I was shadowing a woman to learn the new floor I was on. Almost instantly I could feel that sort of spark/connection between the two of us, just by the way we would keep looking into each other eyes while talking and smiling almost non-stop. We just "clicked" and you could feel that almost explainable tension. It's definitely not the first time I have felt it, but it is rather rare.

Unfortunately she is married, so nothing can come of it. I'm not at all disappointed from it, it made the training a lot more enjoyable and fun.
