How long did your divorce process take? From start to papers being signed...

December to mid-Feb. It was uncontested, no children, and we worked with one (incompetent) attorney together.

Divorce papers filed in January 2011

Went thru amicable divorce via mediation; 3 meetings

Paperwork filed with court in June

Courts were behind and finalized/stamped divorce papers in September 2011

10 years!! My new husband's previous divorce took 20years!!

You have to be legally separated and living apart for 2 years before you can apply for a divorce. All the custody and assets are usually dealt with during these two years and often people don't get around to filing the final divorce papers (as it's another cost) until they have to.

I varies and depends on a number of factors not the least of which is if a spouse contests or drags things out for one reason or another.

 

I'm in Canada. My divorce was amicable. My ex drew up the papers when it was time to file, we went to the courthouse, submitted the official documents, paid the fees and it was over.

 

We already officially separated everything during our separation so filing for divorce took no time at all.
