viking12 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 (edited) i am interested in this girl and i asked my friend to ask a friend of hers if the girl is available. My friend asked her friend if the girl was in a relationship and her friend said to my friend she is 'occupied' what does that mean ? Edited August 10, 2017 by viking12
PegNosePete Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 You should ask your friend to ask her friend what it means. Or just ask her yourself, and cut out both middle men.
Miss Spider Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 it means she's taken, not interested, or her friend is **** blocking you.

Robratory Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Ask the girl yourself. Never go through friends or friends of friends. Keep your love life and love interests private. That way, you won't go through any unnecessary humiliation.
diddilybop Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 it means she's busy with someone else, whether it's serious or not. you could just ask her out yourself and see what she says. makes things much easier
preraph Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 That's exactly the word I used to use when turning someone down. "Sorry, I'm otherwise occupied." I particularly like this phrasing because it's not a lie. You're not saying "I have a boyfriend," which he can maybe check on. You're saying you have other things going on and are not going to make room for him. 1
kazen Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 The first thing that pop in my mind is: Occupied = having sex. Sorta like the "Do not disturb!" sign.
basil67 Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 The first thing that pop in my mind is: Occupied = having sex. The first thing which popped into my mind was a bathroom door with a sliding 'occupied' sign. 1

diddilybop Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 The first thing which popped into my mind was a bathroom door with a sliding 'occupied' sign. hahah! exactly, those airplane lavatory doors!
kazen Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 hahah! exactly, those airplane lavatory doors! So the OP is trying to ask a girl out while she is taking a big dump. I see why she's not available.

I dont know whether her friend said it to my friend to imply the girl is in a relationship or just doesn't want to give out her status. was thinking of asking another friend of hers myself but probably see no point to it. what do you think ?
GemmaUK Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Occupied is the opposite of available. The response amused me as I very much dislike the use of the word 'available' as it makes me feel like an item in a shop behind the glass in a butchers shop. I'd much rather someone ask if I am single. Why do you want to keep asking friends to ask her? Why not give her the respect of asking her yourself? Even if she is single though you may have already done the damage by asking via two other people. Many people don't like their private lives to go between all their friends. You have an answer, I'd just accept it and move right on.

This can work when you're a teen. Not so much when you're dealing with an adult woman. It's a matter of respect for the person you are interested in from the outset.
