Is it just me, or do other men get irritated when a women starts to tell a story, and then goes on a rant with innumerable sidetracks. I feel like saying "get to the point." It is as though women believe they get extra points for using as many words as possible to tell a simple story.

<--------Guilty as charged.

Last Friday. someone I was talking to asked me 3 times to

"just get to the point"...I was a little offended because I honestly felt I WAS getting to the point...eventually :o

*sigh*

No, I always get straight to the point -- shut up. Thanks. :p

You could also look at it the other way around. Sometimes getting straight to the point, is not exactly the healthiest approach. And you can't expect a person to have analyzed the ins and outs of every situation a person needs to vent about. If we were able to do that, we all would have degrees in psychology, sociology and philosophy.

I am not too bothered by sidetracks. A conversation, and even a rant involves two persons. You usually don't have to be blunt to get back to the main story. And sometimes it helps to let a person rant - to let him or her make sense in his or her own thoughts, of the thoughts he or she just expressed.

I know more men who communicate this way. Doubt it's a gender thing.

It's because women talk to decompress- men talk to make a point or state something.

Actually I see both of the male and female species doing this. What bothers me is when it's just pointless; instead of giving good background, it's more like asking someone if they like their new Honda and they talk to you in great detail about the colors it's avail. in.

Too funny.

Look at this way. Men = Short, sweet and to the point....Women = Complete opposite.

It drives my husband nuts! Yet he's just learned to let me talk it out. Doesn't always mean I want him to say anything, or try to fix it, I just want to vent.

I think me and my husband are both guilty of this. I tend to draw my story out and go on and on till I get to my "point" I'm trying to make. My husband does this too, the only difference is he seems to have a little more patience with me when I'm talking about something, where as when he does it, it gets on my nerves, and I'm like hurry up, just tell me! :p

Men don't like to hear the rants because they feel the urge to solve the problem. Many times, there really isn't a problem to be solved, and in so trying to solve something that can't be fixed, the woman gets further irritated because he just doesn't understand her need simply to be understood.

And then the cycle continues, as she starts to b!tch about him not understanding...

I always think of that perfect example in the movie "white men can't jump" because of that scene where they are laying in the bed and she(Rosey) states that she is thirsty for a glass of water and he thinks of a "logical" way to deal with the problem; however she really just wanted him to say that he "also knows how it feels to be thirsty" or something like that. ... priceless.

In my life tho, my wife isn't like that at all, she also isn't much of the romantic type either, it's interesting, we have some role reversals going on.

Are you looking for an excuse to dislike the opposite sex or something? Really. The only women who will give it to you in one word or less are the ones naked in Hustler. Go get em Tiger.

Hmm.. I dunno...

My Boss (who is male) talks continously... I must endure hearing every single detail of 30 minute shows he watches on television with the "Big Finish" coming sometime after an hour (and the f'cking show in question was ONLY 30 damn minutes) about What happened... Agh! Thing that kills me more than that... IF I wanted to watch the damn show OR had an interest in it to begin with doesn't he think I would watch the show and not have to listen to him re-cap it?

CR  P!

What? I never do this. In fact, just the other day, I was talking to a friend about this, and we wandered across the courtyard to Starbucks...oh they make the yummiest new green tea drink...and the barrista was flirting with my friend, which was a little odd since she was a girl, but she was looking really cute that day - so I guess I kind of get it. Anyway, we were talking and we got our lattes and it started to rain so we had to go inside. It rains a lot here. But we were talking about this very thing, and she said that her boyfriend, who is a little on the short side, if you must know the truth, accuses her of the very same thing. I thought about it for a minute, and I said "Ohmygosh, look at that woman's hair!" (She had the freakiest hair.) So we talked about that for a bit, and then I told her that her boyfriend was being a jerk for saying that, because everyone knows we NEVER stray from the topic at hand - so she shouldn't give him anymore BJ's.
