Rosalind Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Oh gosh, and with summer being here...and people wearing the bare minimum...have you noticed we ALL come in different shapes and sizes. And I think that's kinda kewl. Rosalind
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Yes, it's very kewl indeed! And you know what....I'm so glad that the "bra strap" is now part of every-day attire, because with all the thin-strapped camisole tops, I'm struggling to keep those d@mn things at bay! Hey, you know......if you got it.....flaunt it baby!
blue16 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Although I have no experience in online dating, and I don't want to speak for Fly on the wall...but what I think he means is that people will choose careful words to describe themselves which puts them in the best light, especially online. For example, a guy that is skinny might choose the word 'thin' to describe themselves. Thin certainly seems a lot better than saying skinny. A girl which is overweight can say they are 'curvy' without being a complete lie, but it paints a much better picture in in the guys eyes.
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 My motto: "Over who's weight?"' Meaning, I know I look sexier at a certain weight, and it might not be the "Maxim" ideal, but who the hell cares, I'm getting lots of looks, so that must mean that quite a lot of guys are into the curvy look.

"I am a thin male"...translation : I am a very slight built, wasted-away, looking junkie" j/k Rosalind
blue16 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 For sure I agree, curvy is 10x better than skinny. However, curvy is only good when it actually means curvy - not a coverup for being overweight. But if you are getting lots of looks from guys then you probably are a true definition of curvy, not a cheapass imitation
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 No cheapass imitations here! Hey, I've got the height to go along with any "excess" weight. But you know what.....and this is the God's honest truth.....I get more looks now then when I was 20 pounds skinnier. I think *most* men would prefer a little extra padding than a bony shape to snuggle up to.
TUDOR Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I have a sister who is 5'9" and she is not an over weight girl by any means but if you put her weight into a profile some guys would think that sounded heavy because they don't take into account the height factor! I agree with you that curvey is better than skinny any day. I like them built for comfort not speed! Girls with no curve resemble a young teenager to me not a woman! Just keep woking what you got, sounds like is working just fine for you!
tanbark813 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I think Fly meant that girls underestimate their weight or body type more often that not. That is, if a girl describes herself as curvy, it actually means she's fat. And if a girl describes herself as fat, it actually means she's morbidly obese. It's also funny how if a guy doesn't like "curvy" girls, then--according to girls--it's the guy's problem and "everybody is beautiful", but then that same girl will turn around and snub a guy because he's 5'11" instead of 6'0". Ladies, you can't really have a height requirement if you expect everyone to accept your excess weight. At least weight can be controlled.

Oh, and this reminds me soooo much of what I see everyday in this multi-cultural city I live in. Lots of inter-racial couples....big husky guys with teeny Asian chicks. These women are ALL size 0 or size 1. Now to me there's just slightly something sick about this ...like it's the closest these guys can get to pedophilias, or something....... *sigh*...I just don't know. Rosalind

Rosalind Every one has their preferences but personally I want a woman to look and feel like a woman and not have the same figure as the girls you would see at a Jr. High. It really all goes back to how you work what you got! Tanbark, excellent point brother!! Than again I am 6'2"

Rosalind I know what you mean. I see that a lot at some of the "upscale" bars around here.....older guys with these Asian women who are built like boys. My friend is a bit more brash than I am....she walks in there and declares, "Oh, it must be Asian 'Ho night."

TUDOR Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Originally posted by jen_jen_heartbroken Yummmmm.....tall men. (drool) At 5'8" I can see why you appreciate them. My junior year in high school I went to prom with this senior girl that was 6'1" and of course she just had to wear heels I didn't care for her being talling then me at all! But I wasn't complaining at the after prom festivities when her long legs were wrapped around me.
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Oh wow! Must have made for quite the memorable prom night indeed! Congrats! My new guy is 6'5", and I adore his lanky-ness. It's perfect, even if my neck hurts from looking up at him. But in heels, I'm easily 6' tall, so I don't mind one bit. I have a 6' minimum, and refuse to look at any man shorter than that......maybe that makes me shallow, but it's what works for me.
TUDOR Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Every one has their standards and their is nothing shallow about that! I can't say height is one of mine, my ex was 5'7" and my current is 5'1". Go figure!
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 I'm sure that 6'2" and 5'1" make for some interesting logistics! LOL!

Rosalind Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Okay this is totally off-topic All my adult life I was 5'6"....now I'm 5'5" (the doc measured my height recently) It appears as we age, we shrink....something about the curvature of the spine. What I'm wondering is : what is the average height for a white woman??? ( in the the US you say caucasion, right?) Am I average height or slightly shorter??? Enquiring minds demand to know. Rosalind
TUDOR Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Last I heard 5'5" was average for a woman and 5'10" for a guy. Make sure you have plenty of calcium in your diet, it will help prevent or slow your shrinkage!
Outcast Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 All my adult life I was 5'6"....now I'm 5'5" (the doc measured my height recently) It appears as we age, we shrink....something about the curvature of the spine Last I heard, it had nothing to do with curavture of the spine and everything to do with osteoporosis - but you shouldn't be losing height until after menopause
Rosalind Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Originally posted by Outcast Last I heard, it had nothing to do with curavture of the spine and everything to do with osteoporosis - but you shouldn't be losing height until after menopause Yikes!....well it's not menopause. You got me scared now about the osteoporosis. Starting tommorrow I plan to drink one gallon of skim-milk daily, and all my meals will include a side dish of yougurt. Rosalind
JanieQP Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Rosalind, check out some nutritional literature on non-dairy sources of calcium ... the "dairy=calcium" is a marketing ploy of the dairy industry just like "diamonds are forever" is from DeBeers. The absorption rates of calcium from dairy are significantly lower than for plant sources. A link to some non-dairy calcium info http://home.bluegrass.net/~jclark/calcium_foods.htm I don't want to advocate any regimen, so I hesitate to list the The China Study (pro-vegetarian), but there's some interesting information in there - http://www.thechinastudy.com/PDFs/ChinaStudy_Excerpt.pdf Consistent, moderate weight-bearing exercise (like jogging or walking) is also key in maintaining healthy bones. /soapbox
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 Actually, the average woman (at least in the US) is 5'3" and 142 pounds and a size 14. I remember reading this somewhere. Oh, that useless information.
933KJL Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 5'3" 142 sounds VERY curvy to me LOL Rosalind--as for the white/caucasion deal, it is just a result of the over political correctness of the US. Personally, I think that white people know they are white just as black people know they are black!
