No YOU didn't, she DID!!! Seriously. That is the most disrespectful date cancellation I've ever heard of. Keep moving and never call her again. 2
todreaminblue Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 No you didnt come across in my opinion as a jerk.......is she planning on cancelling the date.....deb 1
RecentChange Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Yeah I don't even know what "sinuses really bad" is, my boss would be calling shenanigans on that one. She is going to cancel. If she was really sick, she should have reached out to you the moment she called in sick so you could sell the tickets etc. She's flaking

No, you didn't sound like a jerk. If she ends up cancelling, just see if she attempts to re-schedule. If she does, than she is actually sick and needs time off (sinus infections can be horrendous). If she doesn't, then you know she is making an excuse.
J21 Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 You didn't seem like a jerk, she seems like a flake to me. She should have just been more direct if she wasn't interested. "Catch up on sleep" lol She's leaving you hanging dude, not cool
MidwestUSA Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 No YOU didn't, she DID!!! Seriously. That is the most disrespectful date cancellation I've ever heard of. Keep moving and never call her again. She's not cancelling on him (yet, anyway), they have a date next week. SHE was/is going to a ball game tonight. OP was simply joking wth her about calling in sick because of the upcoming game, without knowledge that her sinuses were acting up. OP, you didn't screw up. 3
Author joearnold Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 she didnt break our date WHICH is next week i just feel like my "it must really suck to have sinuses" is kind of a "it sucks to be you" comment which comes off as rude 2
MidwestUSA Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 she didnt break our date WHICH is next week i just feel like my "it must really suck to have sinuses" is kind of a "it sucks to be you" comment which comes off as rude Thanks for clarifying. Hey, you started a little teasing about her calling in, no biggie. If her sinuses are killing her, you'll get a pass for anything else you said. Text her and ask if she needs anything, and that you hope she's well enough to make the game. 4
preraph Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Nothing wrong with what you said. If someone you never met wants to talk about their sinuses, well, they opened that door, not you. 1
Gr8fuln2020 Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I don't understand this post at all. What exactly is the OP asking???? What part of the message would make anyone seem uneasy???? Neither the OP nor the lady said anything wrong. The date is not until next week. 3
kendahke Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I see no where here that this is a date cancellation on her part. Neither of you said anything untowards. To answer your questions: yeah, it really sucks to have sinus issues. Mine get so bad that I sometimes run fevers and stay on antibiotics, which I avoid unless the fever is over 101... and it calls for calling out sick. That's what sick days are for. 1

Author joearnold Posted June 2, 2017 Author Posted June 2, 2017 no it doesnt.....come across that way...sounds like sympathy to me..you were being sympathetic......deb thank you i wa shoping so sometime stexting can give the wrong impression with the tone 2
todreaminblue Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 thank you i wa shoping so sometime stexting can give the wrong impression with the tone too true especially if you are a wordsmith...words to me are important when i write poetry or write out talks i have to give.... i agonize over one word and those words can be and or to or the....let alone words with substance..... an and or to ...used wrongly can change a tone and message you want to send..if i have to edita piece...oh dear........by even simple placement of a word context can change..so can punctuation change a whole passage........as i add another set of ellipses to my post...... if you stay true to the word you stay true to the tone intended....even when using words like sucks take on a sympathetic tone in a colloquial way.....your tone was sympathetic in a colloquial and intimate way in my opinion as a writer anyway.... dont stress...all good...i would suggest more phone calls than texts if you feel antsy about wording as you are correct many a time as a writer i can get it wrong with tone in text messages..miscommunications.....when the tone wasnt intended to be sarcastic or mean but came across that way to me..how i normally handle a situation like this is to call them and hear their voice...a lot easier then to understand them and to feel secure......deb
newheart Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 she didnt break our date WHICH is next week i just feel like my "it must really suck to have sinuses" is kind of a "it sucks to be you" comment which comes off as rude Well, we all have sinuses so All kidding aside, I don't see anything you've done wrong either. I am not sure of the frequency of your texting at this point, but you could always check in later and ask her if she is feeling better.

Please stop reaching out to a girl you haven't even gone out with yet. This is so stalkery and desperate.
telemakus Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Why is everyone saying she's not interested in him? The date is next week. The baseball game is a separate thing. He wants to know if accusing her of pulling a sickie made him seem like a jerk. No OP it didn't. Don't worry about it.
ChatroomHero Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 No, it sounds like you feel bad for her. I wouldn't think she would read it any other way.
mortensorchid Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I don't think you sounded like a jerk by texting that. Just be more mindful of things you say (verbally or text) that can come off odd or potentially odd. Trying to curb that myself, I realize I have done a lot of this in the past.
