I look at myself in the mirror in my house and think that I look good. When I step outside and have the natural sunlight on my face or turned away from the sun, my face looks bad (I have bag under my eyes and I am squinting).

Am I the only one who notices this? Do other people see me the same?

Totally normal, Josh. I'm sure you can trust the people who have told you you're a very good looking guy. Don't question that just because of this one girl. There are a ton of others who would love for you to ask them out. I show my friends male celebrities I think are the bomb, and some of them are like "no way!" It's not that they aren't attractive, it's just different taste/type.

Also, you have way more to offer than your looks. You seem awesome. From your posts here, it's clear you're very intelligent. You were confident enough to approach a girl despite how nerve wrecking that can be. And that's the tip of the iceberg, I'm sure. Who knows what that girl's issue was! Just keep moving forward. Stay confident (chicks dig that), keep studying (smart girls are into smart guys), build that social circle like smackie said, and remember we all face setbacks sometimes. Trust me you'll meet the right girl.

Sunlight is the harshest light. Candlelight & firelight are the most flattering.

Watch an old episode of a TV show called Moonlighting. The backlit Cybil Sheppard and harshly lit Bruce Willis.

Photography supply stores sell foldable reflectors that create "fill light" when held at the right angle. Have an assistant with such a reflector follow you around.

Yep light changes the way things look pretty dramatically.

I think us girls who wear makeup are quite aware of this. One does NOT apply their make up under a low or yellow light - you'll set out into the daylight looking like you have stage makeup / mask on.

I do my makeup in a sunny room with lots of natural light, or for after dark, bright full spectrum color light bulbs.

If you buy your bulbs at a home Depot or the like, you will see they have many different light spectrum choices, yellows, blues, soft, full spectrum etc - as the different light really affects the way a room, and the people in it look.
