I was told, post interview and tentative job offer, that "HR will contact you."

Does anyone know how long does it take for HR to contact the candidate?

Anywhere from 5 minutes to 1+ years. Highly variable.

Thanks for your response. Gawd I hope not that long.

If you don't hear in about a week, give them a follow up call and ask if there is any news. If they blow you off, not a good sign, but they might give you a time frame. They might have other candidates they are looking at over the next week or two, but after a couple of weeks if you don't hear anything that is a pretty good indicator it is on hold or they went a different direction.

You must be flexible and assume that HR will say that because they're job is to find who are the best. Keep applying for a job and have note for possible questions for you to be consistent.

Still haven't heard back from HR. I forgot they're conducting a criminal background check on me. And working for DOJ before those can take awhile. I think I'll hear them by the end of this week.

In my experience it's anywhere from 5 minutes to approximately never.

Usually I know when it's never though, when they've given me impossibly difficult tasks/questions in-interview.
