I always try to date women who are like me - white, educated, have a career, healthy and fit, etc. However, I don't meet their criteria. Many are looking for men who are at least 6' tall, have a 6 pack abs, drive a BMW, have a house on the beach, etc.

Do you think that women date upwards?

We do and I am. However, my upgrade is not based on physical appearance, but solid morals and strong core values.

You have to find that right person I guess. :)

There are women who will be always unsatisfied with everything so don't try to fit their needs. Maybe you date the wrong ones.

You can't generalise, plenty women "date downwards" too.

Some do some don't. I personally know some amazing women who are with men who are way beneath them.

If you spend time on here you'll read plenty of stories from young women dating and being desperately in love with men way down.

If you're talking online yes, they certainly do.

A 6 in real life becomes a 9 online as many guys will proposition her. Even though a lot of these guys are looking for just sex, it gives the woman the impression that she is a higher level than she is. Look at the profiles with the laundry list of requirements also stating they aren't looking for a hookup.

When I used to lurk on match I would see women making $30k who expect a guy to make $100k.

In real life the playing field is equalled somewhat, however women have and have always had the advantage.

This is also very age and location dependent. Once women get in their 60s there are less men around from which to choose so the guy may date up. I've heard there has been a shortage of men in Russia since WWII which causes men to be in more demand there.

Racism aside (Idont care what ethnicity a man is, if we work together, then fine) I look for guys who have a career, healthy and fit and do ok financially but just ok, dont need them to be rich.

How many men really do have a a BMW and a house on the beach.

The last guy I dated drove a BMW but it was 10 years old and bought used. a BMW isnt necessarily an indication of wealth anyway, the beach house could be heavily mortgaged, etc.

Yup. One is my best friend. She is with a total no hoper. No money. No career. A train wreck of a personal life. He doesnt want marriage or kids as he already has 2 kids by two different women and neither of those kids by his ex wife. One of the kids he didnt know about until she was 5.

He currently doesnt have a job so my friend is paying for his keep and child support for his kids as he cant pay it and he hasnt even married my friend after 6 years of dating.

My friend is smart, kind gentle, loving, intelligent, career girl and she is a total catch.

But she is viciously defensive about this guy for some reason.

I want to ask her what the actual f**k she is getting out of this set up but she would bite my head off if I did.

Oh well. It's her life.

Yes, I meant to say online dating sites.

Women who are grounded in reality and who actually want a partner are realistic. But sure, there are some other women who do this.

Given the commercial nature of online dating, I would imagine that it's rife there. If a woman would rather be single than have a regular man, why not ask for everything she could want? Sure, she may end up single long term, but I guess this is a risk she's willing to take.

Nope. IMO he is ugly. He also several years older than her.

She is burning through her best years, she has been with him 30-36 and she always wanted marriage and children. So silly.
