Asking from past experiences, do you ever get over your first love? My 7 year, first love, high school sweetheart ended things 2 months ago. I'll never know why. He just said he didn't truly love me anymore. I am now blocked on everything as we tried to stay friends but it didn't work for either of us. Fighting. A nasty blowout. I'm not sure what went wrong but I'm moving on. Do you ever get over your first love? Will it ever feel the same?

In my experience, yes.

It takes time and you'll probably always have that special fond place in your memory for them. But you will also very likely experience a better and more mature type of love in future relationships.

We tend to romanticize our first loves, but once you have something to compare that too, we often start to realize that the relationship wasn't all that spectacular. Many first loves stay together long past their expiration date, simply because the other person is familiar and they haven't matured enough yet to feel confident on their own. Their identities and entire worlds often are too enmeshed and it's only once we were away from that when we can truly discover what we want - as individuals - and grow to be the adults we're meant to become.

My first love was a nice guy, but the men I have had relationships since blow him right out of the water. I am sure he'd say the same of the women he went on to date too. We were so young and not that mature in our own rights yet. He's not at all a bad guy, but I am grateful we went our own ways long ago.
